Why do those old Harriers have such big noses? Do they have anything useful in them?

;)

No history with the Harrier (or any other aircraft for that matter) but as the Sea harrier was an AD asset I imagine that the big nose is where they kept the Radar.

Do they have radars in the Harriers they didn't get rid of then?

Stacker:

The only UK Harriers with radar were the Sea Harriers. The GR7/9 series don't - they are pretty limited as air defence aircraft, but then they were not built for that.....................

Ah, I see.

So what do the RN use for air defence these days then?

Not quite the bites you were looking for then?!

Maybe Bob is right, but either way I bet your wrists ache from al that fishing. I suppose you also had an innocent grin as you typed (to try to look convincing):}

As an AD asset the SHAR was pretty useless. Poor Radar performance, limited range and as slow as a tortoise.

And we're not rising to that one either !

He has successfully dead sticked a Harrier, so it's not just luck.

I would imagine that whatever it had in it's service days has now been upgraded to the full Blue Circle spec
