JAA/JAR Conversion

Anyone converted their Lic. recently to a JAA from ICAO or FAA?
How was it ? who with? How much? and how long did it take?
just some general info would be great.
I have done a search and found some useful tips, but anyone done it recently.

6500TT
2000 multi crew jet.

Possible job later in the year req JAA. don't know if its worth the trouble?

all you need to do is to sitt the 14 exams, and then one check ride (skill test) on the type of aircraft you use to fly in a simulator. I recommend bristol groundschool. I did it, and bristol are very good.

Exactly, just sit it. Only 14. Nothing else. Piece of cake.

I dont remember exactly, but i do know that with your experience, you dont even need to sit the 14JAA subjects, only 3 if i remember correctly.... HUman Facotrs, Air Law and Operational procedures...

Look it up on the CAA website but pretty sure on the 3 subjects and most definatley sure you dont have to do the whole 14 of them!

Depends whether you want a restricted licence or a full JAA one. If you sit only the 3, then your licence is effectively a national licence restricted to aircraft registered in that state. If you want a full JAA licence then you have to bite the bullet and do all 14:yuk:

I converted from FAA, did all 14 exams took 18 months part time, lot of work, I used Oxford but passed by using Bristol GS Question Bank, If I had to do it again
I would use Bristol GS, much better support and instructors. Have not used the license as of yet, flying on a Saudi License!!

Yeah the exams are pretty straight forward with the info out there and question bank, so just do it and head on over!

In a nutshell, unless you have more than 3.000 hours/ 1.500 PIC in +30.000 kg public transport you will need to do all 14 ATPL written exams, plus the Flight Skills Test.

And as I said above, the licence you will get is valid for UK reg aircraft only unless you do all 14.:sad:
