There' a bunch of CRM systems that promise full text search, but it seems that none of them search files that have been attached to tickets and for our FAQ, we must allow file search. Are there any exceptions to this rule?

For sure!EnterpiseWizard (http://www.enterprisewizard.com) to name just two and I am sure there are others. However, the quality of implementation varies widely. Some of them have implemented their own full text search, some of them use a third party product and some of them use grep, which is VERY slow if you have large or multiple attached files, so ask them how it is implemented and check scalability before you buy!
