My little tribute to Dan is up and running if you would care to have a look.
www.geocities.com/danairremembered (http://www.geocities.com/danairremembered)

At the mo it's just a free site but if it's successful I will look at giving it a proper domain etc. The site will hopefully mature and get new pics and features over time and some bit's will get the push. I am particularly interested in any pictures you might share with me of staff, cabin views, flight deck views, or behind the scenes images.
Would love to hear from anyone with their thoughts
Be kind guys!
Regards
Adam

Here's a pic of Dan Air York G-ANXN unloading at Changi in 1962.

The York's did quite alot of cargo hauling for the RAF at that time, which very often seemed to be engines.

If you like Yorks...you obviously will like Lancasters. I was lucky enough to catch the French Navy Lanc WU15 passing through Changi in Nov 1962. She returned in 65 and became NX611 at East Kirkby. If I'm allowed to give you a link to the Key Publications Historic Aviation Forum, I posted pics there and also a link to an online slideshow.

An all white Lancaster appeared on the approach... - Key Publishing Ltd Aviation Forums (http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=88079&highlight=Lancaster+Changi)

oh apologies for going off the thread!

Hi Keith,

That's a beautifully crisp shot of G-ANTK. They did a wonderful job of restoring her at Duxford. I'm sure all ex Dan Air employees will feel very pleased after seeing her looking as good as new.

My shot from 47 years ago alas isn't up to the standard of my pics of her sister ships TJ and XN.

She'd just brought another engine I recall.

Friend of mine built this 1/48 Dan-Air York last year...

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/DariusAibara/Avro%20York/AvroYork_87.jpg

Starting point was a "spare" set of Tamiya Lanc wings, tail feathers, engines, props and gear. He carved the fuselage from balsa, skinned it with plasticard and plunge-formed (I think) the nose in clear plastic using the balsa original as a mould and grafted it on. Cockpit interior is also scratch built from plasti-card.

And what better scheme than that of 'NTK as she has been so lovingly restored!

Great airline, sorely missed.

Nice site but I think you are being a bit disingenuous in referring to photos having come from "seemingly free to use sources". I recognise one which I believe is mine and which is hosted on airliners.net. That site makes it very clear that in each case copyright rests with the photographer concerned and that they should be contacted in relation to proposed use by others. I doubt that most people would have a problem with granting consent for usage as long as they are credited alongside the photo. Use without permission being sought does annoy photographers, however, and you risk them asking you to remove the pictures from your site. I would recommend that, laborious as it may be, you contact the owners of the photos you propose to use, to seek their permisison.

Thank you for you comment. I have redesigned that page you refer to. for the record not one single picture was taken from Airliners.net. They were sent to me by a little network I am in and from things tht have cropped up over the years. I am not saying that they are not originally from there, but as I said on the page at the time, they were from seemingly free resources. I did say if any copyright etc had been breached I would remove them. If I was being disingenuous then I wouldn't have bothered with that offer in the first place. I am not in the business of nabbing things for the sake of it. However that said, i take what you said on board and have now credited the photographer concerned - the photgraphs that are now on the site are still not from Airliners.net Even if they have been "nabbed2 and put on there by other people. My one intention was to bring happy memories of Dan Air to people. Not to offend ANYONE. as for you own picture - it was removed, whichever one it was. As the company incedentally had 200 aircraft pass through it hands to redo that page with the entire fleet listing as it was with a picture of each aircraft would mean 200 e-mails. Tht is why specifically I chose what I thought were free to use images. There's no way I am doing 200 e-mails! So I guess I will have to wait until people donate pictures! The site has been a mega hit and I am stunned. It was therefore a good idea to remove the pictures as they took up a lot of space and exceeded the bandwidth too many times. As it's only a free page at the moment I have to wait and see if the success is a flash in the pan or continued - if it continues I will have to move it somewhere.
Thanks again for your input

These pix are excellent and bring back memories of nightshift on the ramp at Changi . The Hastings in the background of this picture would date this period some time before my arrival in '64 .where I worked as an engine fitter on 48sqdn . The nightime was the best time for working being a lot cooler. Little did I know that I would be working for Dans myself from '71 which I enjoyed a very happy(mostly} 14 years .
Knowing Dans of old I would bet there would have been a few occasions when the flt eng would be shelling a few quid for some 'assistance' as we used to do for Ace Freighter Connies!

I have no difficulty sending you a few photos if you like - scanned from slides taken in the 1980s and 1990s. I'll use the link on your site.

I was learning to fly a glider at Lasham in 1959/60; days of Derek Piggott, T21, Swallow when you soloed, old US-built automatic gearbox pick-up for launching....fun times.

Made interesting every so often when someone would appear from the hangars and ask us to clear the gliders, launch cables, tow car, ourselves etc etc from the runway. Shortly afterwards a Dan-Air York would stagger in to a straight-in landing, usually at least one engine inop, occasionally two.

Or, a York would emerge from behind the Dan Air hangar, belching smoke, and taxi hesitantly to the runway end. There would be a long period while each engine would be run up, props exercised and so on. Then the aircraft would either return to the hangar, or start an interminable take-off roll in clouds of blue smoke. On about half of these, the pilot would give up (sorry, Reject the Take-Off), and taxi back to the hangar, often on the 3 remaining engines. Otherwise, the aircraft would lift off and disappear, climbing very slowly, leaving a trail of smoke across the countryside.

I never flew with Dan Air as a passenger; somehow the opportunity never offered itself. But the sound of a York at take-off power was thrilling; I can hear it now.

I was really fortunate to fly on Dan's 727, Comet, A300, 737, 1-11, 748 and Viscounts. I always pestered my mum and dad to go on Dan. I became a Dan addict and have spent 30 odd years researching the company. I am mournful I never had the chance to fly on an Ambassador or a York. I wonder what the cabin service was like on these aircraft. I, like everyone here loves aircraft. However the thing that interests me is cabin interiors! There are only a few good Dan interior pictures around...So please help me with that! Would love to see the interior of a Dans Ambassador or York in glorious colour...Just going to go all misty eyed now!

Three things I love in one photo .... my son, a york and a concorde. Keith.
