Eh ?? Just got this whilst browsing the forums :

FYI . .Hmmm... seems too many of you are trying to read PPRuNe at the same time. We have introduced a new rule. If your last name begins with a letter between A-M you should only try and read the forums between 00 and 29 minutes past every hour. If your last name begins with a letter between N-Z then you should only check the forums between 30 and 59 minutes past the hour. Please try again when your turn comes up as the server is just too busy right now. . .» Please use your browser's back button to return.

edit : apols for 'q-ing' sp in title.

Part of the problem comes from members logging on and not logging off when leaving...I've been guilty in the past...

I'm still trying to understand why I get bumped between 30-59mins past the hour. Now let me think, what does Newswatcher begin with!

Doh! I should have realised that many people would actually believe that the system knows your username or last name or whatever. It is just a bit of a joke but I thought I'd experiment a bit and see if the load did actually 'distribute' itself a bit more evenly and whaddaya know....? It does!

As for logging on and off, you only need to log off if you are using a publicly accessible computer where other people could log onto PPRuNe. If you are using your computer at home and only you log into PPRuNe then there is no need to log-off every time you leave PPRuNe. The logging on and off is purely a cookie setting exercise. If you are logged on then the browser will remember your username and password so that you don't have to type it in everytime. If you log out then all you are doing is deleting the cookie that remembers your password and next time someone goes to PPRuNe they will have to log in if they want to post or access a private forum.

Now off to another forum with this one.
