Hi there
I'm currently employed by QF Link as a FA based here in syd.. and I might be able to find out if and when they will be recruiting again.. I know for a fact that they are very short of FA's at the moment.. Just a question? Would you know by any chance how to change profile names? I need to change mine asap, can't figure out how to:confused:

:) Hello

I have an invite for an interview with Qantaslink for the Sydney base.
Is anyone else attending, I have 6 years experience and am still currently a Flight Attendant, and a little concerned that Qantaslink might prefer non flyers any ideas.

Cheers

Hi,

I realise this may not be the correct forum for this question however I cannot find any recent or relevant information about this subject in this site.

Does anyone know truth or rumour what is going on with career progression?

I have to laugh when I read the cries of wannabes putting their lives on hold for ....... amount of weeks or months awaiting a response from the airlines.

Well I remember a certain amount of years ago when I was sold the position of FA with EAA and told that the reason for the low wages was because we were guaranteed career progression to QF shorthaul. We could put our names down on the progression list after two years however it was more than likely 4 years till we got across.

Since joining EAA QF has not externally employed applicants other than those through MAM and now QCCA for LH.

If we had of known that career progression was going to be a thing of the past Im sure we (the ones sold EAA with career progression) would have gone through MAM and more than likely been a FT QF SH employee.:{

OK Ive go that off my chest, now does anyone know anything?????

Cheers,

Hiyas

I've been invited to QFLink (Eastern) assessment centre next week for MEL.

Been waiting for 7 years to get back to Australia and to Mel.

Anyone out there that can give me any current info on anything to do with pay and conditions and/or rosters for MEL or direct me to this info would be fabulous.

PM me if you want to.

Oh and yes, I know not to expect progression to mainline.

Pushback747....career progression, unfortunately, is officially not into Qantas mainline anymore now since the Short Haul EBA 7 Varied was voted up. Career progression will however be into the "New Entity" that the company will soon establish and sadly, there will be no bidding and the pay scale will be pretty much the same as existing pay for regional airlines....ie. low. My advice for anyone....if you join EAA or Sunstate....do it because you want to fly regionally and want to be home more often....don't do it because you may think it is a 'back door' into Qantas. If you want to work for 'Qantas'...then you should apply direct to QCCA or the "New Entity" to be established in Jan 2009.

At the moment, there is a recruitment freeze across the whole of the Qantas Group...so it is unlikely that EAA will be recruiting until this ban has been lifted. Expect early next year.

As for the previous posters who asked whether or not EAA will look unfavourable upon you because you have flown before....rest assured, this is far from the case. They have recruited people from Ansett International and Domestic, Emirates, Gulf Air, and Virgin. It is not where you've come from that really matters...what they want to know is if you are capable of managing a cabin; whether you are being realistic about the low pay and long hours, and whether; whether you have your head screwed on and am mature in dealing with customers etc.

How do I know all this??.....I used to fly for EAA and now work for Qantas Domestic. Cherish your time at EAA...it gives you very important cabin management and leadership skills and it makes an efficient worker out of you.....qualities that are highly regarded should you ever want to be a CSM. A lot of CSM in Qantas Domestic used to fly for the regionals. Knowing that you are ex-regional, management already knows you have what it takes to be a CSM.

Qantas will be recruiting for CSM positions 18 months AFTER they establish the "New Entity"....my advice to anyone who already works for EAA....you should go for it....you could walk straight into wearing the platinum tie/scarf.....you've got what it takes to be a CSM! :)

There is currently no recruitment freeze at Qantaslink (including Sunstate, Eastern and National Jet systems).

Thanks Domestos, it is so true what you say though. Ive been flying for QF Link for 7Years now, and still love it. However I am a bit resentful that we may be progressing onto the new entity with short haul. Do you know if we will possibly progress in to QCCA international??? Its a shame progression will never be the same again. Most of us regional FA's are hard workers.

Yes, pushback747 can totally sympathise with you on that one. Ive been flying for 7and a half years now for EAA, and should be up for progression next, if it ever happens. However I have been doing a bit of research, (something I have never done in the past), I have found out through a reliable source that progression HAS been frozen temporarily until the powers at be have sorted out the new entity for short hall, which is due to commence in March.

So it looks like we will be progressing into short hall or Long hall on the new entity (QCCA) I believe thats what their plans are. So your pay and privilages at Eastern may not seem all that bad after all. All for the sake of Flying on a Jet.

Unfortunately, thats the way it looks like it will be. gone are the days of good pay, bids, longer stopovers, seniority. It will be a thing of the past, Sorry to sound so pesemistic, but the current climate is dictating this change of era.

I know!!!! It sucks and I do hope i am wrong!!! But at least we will still have our jobs and be able to work in the industry that we all love, or love to hate.:{

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to check in and see who else plans to attend this Fridays assessment day in SYD. Im going to give it a go - dont think it can hurt.

Can any current QantasLink crew give us an idea of how the day will run? Is is the same format as QCCA Assessment days or are there puzzles, tests other exercises etc. Is there a role play exercise?

Any questions that you think might come up in the Panel Interview that arent the standard ones?

Any pointers or tips at all would be really appreciated..

Thanks everyone and I hope i'll see some of you there on Friday braving this beautiful weather we've been having!

Hi there :)

Just wondering if you went to the assessment day on Fri 20th Feb?? How was it? Ive been invited to a Qantaslink recruitment day on the 27th Feb in BNE, would you be able to give me some pointers?? What did the day involve? role play excercises? group activities? Also just wondering if they measured you? I'm 2cms under the height requirement and I'm a little worried... I've heard they measure you as soon as the day begins and if you're over or under they send you home :bored:
Any tips would be greatly appreciated :O

Hi there I may see you there as well as I have been invited to apply for the assessment day also. Its hard to say as I went for the Emirates open day and didnt really know what they were looking for all up as after we got the call back the next day it was mainly all group activities so I would say just try and be yourself and intereact with others as you would everyday. Suffice to say after spending 2 months getting ready to work with emirates they dropped me a week before I was due to start training so hopefully I may be lucky this time as hopefully you will be as well.

Hi Chicken or Fish,

Your friend should have gotten the following information on their webiste when they got the email to attend the assessment day. If not here is the format from it so I hope this helps them. Will keep an eye out for them

Stage 2:
You may then be selected to attend a group seminar where you will participate in both team and individual activities.
Stage 3:
As part of the overall assessment, there is a requirement for all applicants to complete a psychometric profiling assessment. This will usually be completed as part of the group seminar.
Stage 4:
If successful at the group seminar, you will be invited to attend a panel interview.
Stage 5:
Candidates who are successful at panel interview will need to complete medical and security checks.
All costs associated with the application process are the responsibility of the applicant.
Stage 6:
Reference checks will be conducted on all candidates. Generally, only previous 'managers' or 'supervisors' of candidates will be accepted as referees.

Hi there, I went to the recruitment day on the 27th of February in BNE....

The day went like so….

Waited outside Qantas departure lounge with other applicants(about 20-25).

The recruitment organiser (QLD CC manager) collects group and escorts inside to meeting area/crew room. We are told to organise paperwork (birth cert, passport etc) 3 other Qantaslink CC are sitting at desks to process our application. Take name badge, get height checked.

We are given a table number. Go and join group at table. One assessor sits at each table.

CC manager introduces herself. Assessor at group table introduces herself to the group and then everyone introduces themselves and explains why they want to be CC.

CC manager starts a group discussion about what F/As do/should be like. Eg. Safety is important, customer service, emphasising with pax, presentation.

Group activity 1: Group is given packet of ‘craft’ things (egg carton, straws, glue, cotton wool balls, play doh) and told to make something airline related but not an aircraft. My group made ‘the view from a qantaslink aeroplane on a bright sunny day’. The object is to make something in a team. Groups then designate someone to stand up and explain what the group made to the rest of the groups.

Group activity 2: CC manager reads out situation. Something like: group of 6 people are trekking in Nepal, guides go missing, they have enough supplies for 24 hours, the group includes a homemaker, a monk, a yoga instructor, a doctor, a music teacher & an artist. What roles do each individual play? Who goes for help? Why? work as a team to discuss ideas etc. Groups then pick someone to stand up and explain what you decided and why to everyone else.

--Short coffee break.--

Back in groups, youre given 3 questions to answer in 20mins. Write fast, some people didn’t finish this one in time.
Q1.) Give an example of when you have exceeded a customers expectations and why? also something about your customer orientation?
Q2.) Give an example of when a customer has asked for something that is against procedure. Explain how you pleased the customer but also stuck to the rules.
Q3.) Read through a situation about customer service (you work at a car hire booth. One person on phone line 1, 3 agitated customers walk up, phone line 2 starts ringing, foreign customer starts talking to you about the shuttle bus, prioritise who you serve first, second, third etc and why) and answer question.

Personality test. Answer 400 questions in 45 mins (true or false OR I agree, undecided, I disagree) be honest and quick. Don’t read into the statements too much.

CC manager tells you all to go and have lunch and wait for a call for a panel interview. If you don’t receive a call within half an hour you can go home.

Tips….. if you’re wearing a skirt, wear stockings! Speak up and make yourself noticed. Make conversation with other applicants. Take pens, pencils and an eraser with you. Also take something to eat quickly in the break as they don’t give you long and don’t offer anything to eat except biscuits. Suit jackets and pencil skirts were popular options. Also closed in heels.

Best of luck!! :)

Eff Aye:

Well there was about 25 or so that attended the day from all over OZ so not sure who got the call back at this stage. As for ground schools it was just those that if successful would go into the talent pool until the next ground schools were run which they arent sure of when that be. So now its wait and see for all

Hey there if you read Sitruce's posts towards the top of this page that will pretty well much explain what will happen. It was exactly what happened during the one that I attended in Sydney so thanks to that I was prepared for what to expect and have in my mind to answer. Just being yourself is all you need to do. :ok:

Does anyone still look at his forum?

I had my recruitment interviews on the 8th of Oct and had both my refs checked on monday this week.
Does anyone know how long it normally takes after your refs are checked to hear from QFLink if you through to the medical.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what kind of flying you would get with QantasLink out of Adelaide?

Also an idea of the pay? Are they on the same or similar agreement to QD?

Thanks :)

Hi there,

I can see there hasn't been much action on this thread for a while but thought I would ask a bit of info anyway....

I have been flying for a number of years with other carriers (domestic & regional) I am considering coming across to Eastern SYD base.

Can anyone tell me any information regarding....

*Rosters hours
*How many O'nites would you do a roster period ?
*What average pay would be at increment 1 & 2
*What morale is like? On average do the crew enjoy the flying etc.

Thanks so much

:)
