Currently available at http://casa.gov.au/oar/papers/kununurra_study.pdf. has a good insight into some of the problems experienced with NAS2c procedures in a CTAF (R).

Recall being at a presentation of the CTAF procedures when they were to be introduced, and commenting about the large number of calls proposed, but was told that was what the experts (?) considered necessary.

Worth a read.

Extend the "North Kimberley CTAF" East to encompass but EXCLUDE a 15nm Kununurra CTAF<R> (given the amount of traffic it'd probably be best to exclude Wyndham CTAF too). That way climbs and descents made on the "Kalumbaru Highway" will be made on the frequency that most pilots will be monitoring.

There are no need for special rules or to change any old rules, just use the tools at ASA's disposal and print some new lines on the ERCs.

PS Single radio ops at around 10 - 15 NM PKU on the Kalumbaru Highway are a bit sus methinks.

PPS This would put FRV, Nulla Nulla, Home Valley and (depending on how far South it goes) Emma Gorge and El Questro inside the 128.0 CTAF which is a pretty good idea.

FRQ Charlie Bravo, that very suggestion was made to the review panel when they came to Kununurra last year.

We showed them how and where the potential for conflict occurs on departure/arrival from/to KU and the various other little hot spots along the way.

There was much head nodding and mumbles of agreement but obviously nothing has changed...... maybe we have to wait for the next maps/charts issue just to make sure.
