Hello,
Would anyone be so kind as to verifying the crest of R.A.E Bedford ?
I have searched but only found this attached image.
I understand this is from around the 1960's but would be very grateful
if there was an older version ? ideally 1947 -50 :)
I'm currently making a short film after a recent visit and would like to
include it on the opening credits if possible ?
Thankyou
Rez

Stand to be corrected but I don't think RAE Bedford existed before about 1950. The coat of arms you show was for all RAE's ie Farnborough, Bedford, West Freugh, Llanbedr, Aberporth.

Thanks for the info Chevvron .....i think this was on a Gnat around 1962
and was the only picture i could find after a long search !
I was hoping to find something more specific to R.A.E Bedford
but your help was appreciated

The RAE was established at Bedford in 1946, but I haven't found a crest other than the one you posted, which could not have been taken in 1962 as you can clearly see the red/white/blue 'raspberry ripple' livery worn by this aircraft that wasn't devised until 1976.
The Gnat was first built by Folland Aircraft Ltd in September 1962. This example (XP505) was later used for research into turbulance and air movement by the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) in Bedford, Bedfordshire, between 1970 and 1983 and this aircraft survives today in this colours with the Science Museum outstation at Wroughton, Wilts.
