Does anybody know of a good low graphic or mobile internet site for getting weather (METARs/TAFs) and notams when out and about with my Blackberry?

Also if anybody knows of other useful applications your input would be very much appreciated.

Minus 10 points for each person to suggest buying an Iphone.

Many thanks all.

Hi

We use the following site and we find it works very well for metars, tafs and notams, we also use a wap site from Avbrief but the Quickweno site is the best and there are no charges.

Address as follows QuickWeNo - Mobile (http://www.davewasthere.com/hamish/default.aspx)

I know it is a unusal address but as I said it works great on my our Blacberrys and mobile phones worth a try, if you have a problem let me know and I will check the address.

Regards Rick
PS just checked the address on my laptop and worked fine

Until very recently I was able to use www.yaws.mobi on my blackberry but since Christmas the website seems to have shut down, shame as it worked really well.

Yaws was the best I have used, does anyone know why it no longer works?

Have a look at WX Support (http://www.wxsupport.com) - works great on the laptop and the BalckBerry, unfortunately no NOTAMS.

For NOTAMS and wx - look at www.ippc.no

Try www.activitae.com/pda

I've used it for a good few years now.

HS125 - have you used it recently as this is/was YAWS.
Would be delighted if you can still use it as it was an excellent tool

I use WXSYS for BlackBerry. It is a dedicated aviation weather app for BlackBerry that installs over-the-air to your handheld.
The app has checkboxes for selecting METAR, TAF, RADAR, Satellite, FBO, Sunrise/Sunset and a bunch of other data for airports worldwide. (The METAR/TAF data is available worldwide, but the RADAR and Satellite information is limited outside of North America, it seems.)

Go to: WXSYS On Demand - Aviation for BlackBerry (http://www.wxsys.com/AviationBB.aspx) and check out the BlackBerry screenshots at the bottom of the page.

Or, just go to:

WXSYS® - On Demand (http://www.wxsys.com)

would buy an Iphone if I didn't want my phone to last more than half-a-day!

Yaws is back up. If you haven't read it elsewhere, the server went down in an electrical storm in December and only recently have I arrived back in the UK to fix it.

Some ATIS phone numbers were lost - so if you see any discrepancies please update via the page provided.

yaws.mobi (http://yaws.mobi) gets you wx access for free and activitae.com (http://activitae.com) will tell you about it.

The current back-up server is slowly being migrated to a RAID 1 configured Sun Cobalt RaQ 550 running Strongbolt 2.

But... shouldn't you professional fly boys and girls only get weather data from your despatcher? What are you doing looking at a site aimed at us GA wallies?

Because it's handy on occasions when you cant be arsed getting out of bed to check the weather, or if your stuck at some crap foreign little airfield where no other weather service or flight dispatchers reside.
