Yes, a description of the occasion and a photo of Churchill talking to Alex Henshaw can be found in "Sigh for a Merlin". There might even be a date, but I don't have my copy available.

As far as I know Churchill only made one visit, on Friday the 26th September 1941. He was accompanied by Mrs Eleanor Roosevelt, a fact not mentioned in Alex Henshaw's book. There's a photo here (http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/GenerateContent?CONTENT_ITEM_ID=58062&CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE=0&MENU_ID=10277).

Is that Henshaw in the white flying suit behind Winnie?

Thanks for that. My Mum worked there. She was stood at the bus stop when his motorcade went past. She remembers because he waved to her. She was 16 in 1941.
