Apologies as I don't know much about CC, but I am asking on behalf of a family member who is interested in applying.

Do any airlines have bases in Aberdeen or Inverness, and are any of them currently recruiting?

Also, she's read on various websites that you must live within 60 minutes of the nearest airport in order to apply. She actually lives 75 minutes from one, but has family who live less than 5 miles from the airport. Would in be acceptable in the eyes on the airline if she lived this distance, but was able to commute to her family's house the day before a shift?

Thanks for any replies.

Neeps, there are a couple of airlines which have permanent crew bases at either, or both, of those airports.

With regard to the 60 minutes issue, the answer is yes and no. Ideally, ailrines like crew to live within 60 minutes travelling time of the airfield in 'normal' traffic conditions, at least for short haul operators. However, in practical terms 60 minutes travelling time only becomes an issue when a crewmember is on a standby duty, and most airlines will happily accept a crewmember carrying out their standby from a location other than their home address provided that they can make the airport within 60 minutes. It is therefore unofficially accepted that crew can live pretty much anywhere they please, so long as they are able to report for duty when required.

My only advice is that short haul can be pretty intense and tiring, much more so for cabin crew than the flight deck, and adding over 2 hours of travelling time to an already long day is not to be taken lightly. Even more so when you consider the times of day that this travelling is likely to take place - early morning or late night.
