Modest by the above figures, but we are having several days in the 30s, and it's the middle of the winter...or not far off given the lag time.

Oh dear. I feel so sorry for the Melbournites and this isn't because the weather is a tad hot.

No this is because they have entrusted their transport system to the plonkers at connex who now have the excuse 'buckled rails' to add to their bizarre list of reasons for running a crappy railway service.

That said I remember a mate who's connex train was cancelled in mid winter 'because the driver has fgorgotten his sunglasses.'

Still, they were booted out of their south east franchise a couple of years ago or so, so put that in your pipe and smoke it Melbournites! (Make sure you dispose of pipe embers carefully though). :}

I blame the French.

You can't have some of heat - that's the problem, whereas you can always add clothing to counteract cold.
And air conditioning doesn't count.

I don't like cold, but I don't like 'hot' either . . .

Buster, you think it's hot. This is hot. In Abu Dhabi, we have 3 months of 40c to 50c EVERY  day and 4 months of 30c plus EVERY  day, yet we still walk outside AND play golf. :D At the moment some people are wearing jumpers, coats and hats, and have the heater on in the car because they are feeling the cold :confused:23c day and 12c at night.:uhoh: It also rained last week and they had 4 inches of snow on a 5700ft mountain in Ras Al Khaimah, about 70 miles NE of Dubai.

As Rule3 has already said:

Come on over and play in the sandpit.
In Oman....
40-50 degrees every f*cking day for at least six months. No rain during all of that time.
Night time - down to about 32 if you're lucky.
Tie that in with traffic jams and a general lackadaisical outlook on life and you are in for a great time!

Freezing my arse off in Berlin as I type this though!

Rule3 - good news about the ME - but how many raging bushfires do you have each day - where 28 homes are destroyed as the fire rages through a forest. Hot is easy - fires are not.

In this country 40 degrees + kills people and destroys property - just not send people to another airconditioned mall in the ME.

Cheers

From a cool m 34 degrees Canberra.

I forgot to add that the one of the many fires in Victoria was started by some freking arsonist - the one that has claimed so far 28 homes - fortunately no life.

Heat, winds and idiots in this country is not a competition. Get over it - in winter we can claim who is coldest.

This is serious.

Get IT.

You have obviously had the extreme Oz experience.

fortunately no life.

Well no human life Barkly, so far, but a complete pig farm and hundreds if not thousands of cattle and other animals who must have died an excruciatingly painful death.

Interesting that in the USA, (well, California anyway), if they catch an arsonist and a human life has been lost as a result of the arsonists actions then they are charged with murder.

Well, the heatwave is over here in South Oz at last but it finished as it started; Topped 50C here in Waikerie yesterday! Over the eleven days the lowest temperature here was 43.5C. Today is a delightful 26C so far.

Still hot in the eastern states though with some extremely nasty bushfires in Victoria as mentioned in previous posts. However, now with a heavy loss in Human lives!
