An interesting site I found allows you to view 1940s and 1960s aerials of Blackpool Airport (and other areas in the Lancashire/Fylde area).

Go to:
Lancashire County Council - MARIO - Maps And Related Information Online (http://mario.lancashire.gov.uk/)

Click on the 'Open MARIO Viewer', and then choose 'Aerial Photographs' from the Select Map' Category. It is a bit fiddly, and the map scale needs to be below 1:10000 before Aerial Photographs will plot, but for Blackpool you can view 1940s and 1960s images. I'd post an example but have not yet sussed how to add images!!!

Cheers,

Fascination resource. My father worked at Squires Gate during WW2 and my mother at the Vickers factory. For anyone that remembers Stewarts Radio in town he work with Stan Stewart

The 1940's shots of the old Stanley park airport (where the zoo is now) also still reveal some detail
