Hmmm, that looks a suspicious Mr R, be one of they photoshoped Chinese Olympic firework displays? that opry house wasn't there when I first sailed into Sydney, one cannot say one has any liking forrit, it set a president now we have a hideously similar thing made out of glass on our quayside.

Pretty sure it's real. I've been there on Australia Day and the bridge looked similar to that shot.

Been on a boat on the harbour on Oz day as well - have to say that shot does look a little sus. the house seems a little far to the right, and the timing of the shot would have to be perfect to get that combination.

Having said that - thank god it's only a Sydney photo.

... a Melbourne or Perth one would have me well and truly homesick.

25th Jan 2009, 20:25
Phhh. If it was a Melbourne pic you wouldn't have seen any thing cos it would be raining and the folks in Perth all go home at 6pm cos the place is shut! :E

That's the Windsor Hotel - and from this angle, if you looked up and right you would see my bachelor pad behind the hotel (at least you would have in 2001 and before .... ) :D

On the understanding that one never drank in the hotel in which one was staying ( the Hilton on this occasion ) I took the crew to that hotel in Perth - The Old Melbourne, was it ? - one Saturday night ( after 6.00 pm ) We were the only four occupants of the bar. Later an Aus. came in, bought some B.Y.O and was about to leave when I asked him where to go in this city for some entertainment on a Saturday night ?

He looked me up and down, and said - Do you mean for your age group, Sir ?

Perth OK and Sydney OK if the sun is shining, otherwise wadda you do ?
but always enjoyed Melbourne.

26th Jan 2009, 11:26
True stroy: Melbourne enjoys more sun per annum than Sydney!

Australia Day.............what a pathetic joke it has become. The day has been hijacked by the Bogan element who wear shorts and thongs, drape themselves in the flag, consume copious quantities of alcohol and then proclaim their patrioism. They wouldn't know patriotism if it jumped up and bit them on the arse. Their displays of rampant racist nationalism is why myself and many of the people I know don't bother celebrating anymore. These links to the Daily Telegraph and SMH once again highlights why.

Or to save you looking it up, 40C=104F.
