Found a few pictures taken in a previous life, sometime in the early/mid 80's of BA's Chinook G-BISR, carrying out some load lifting training. Ahh, the glory days......! Anyone like to guess the airfield for a bonus point?

As I remember it one of the neighbouring farmers became a little over-emotional about the noise as the aircraft shuffled around the circuit. He phoned up and offered to bring his shotgun over to the airfield and attempt to rearrange the Chinook's training schedule, not to mention paintwork. Needless to say the local police suggested he may like to reconsider..........

Date? 1982? Brought back memories of the first offshore commercial landing on Brent Charlie. The downdraft blew a 130 dry powder wheeled extinguisher off the helideck which landed in the valley between the PLQ and the pipedeck.It burst on landing, with a great bang, throwing up a great white cloud of powder. Some wit next to me retorted " and for my next ffin trick" What a shame Foxtrot Charlie ended the adventure. I once watched one approaching a platform in fog just above sea level, could just see the waves from the platform, when the pilot got an eye on the platform concrete legs it was up 150' and on to the deck. Forty of us gave him a round of applause. The entertainment for the journey home was music DJ'd by a young Nicky Campbell now on "Watchdog". Is Longside International still in use for training purposes? I think North Scottish owned the field when I lived in the area. Does anyone know if the other three aircraft are still flying?

Lovely pics and I used to think a 61 looked huge taxying towards the pan.

Longside only seems to be used by GA fixed wing nowadays and the fence has long gone.

Re complaints - one of the, now long retired, Ops guys (Arthur) recalled a complaint from a local, who claimed a crack appeared in a wall on his house, after a Chinook had been circuit bashing at Longside.

Anyone remember trying to squeeze 'FC' into the hangar at Longside, after it diverted with a transmission/engine fire (circa 1983)? I was only a wee nipper at the time, but got dragged upto Longside by my father (ex-BAH engineer). One and only time I got to sit upfront in one of these magnificent beasts.

Last I heard all of the civilian chinooks are being flown by Columbia Helicopters based out of Oregon.

Very nice photos! I am also intrigued as to the date, as I remember being up there when they were doing some lifting, but IIRC that time would have been mid 80's, was only born in 79! In fact, I'm sure one of the 2 bods in pic 2 underneath the beast is prob my father, though a bit thinner :E and the company has changed a few times.

Also, there was a thread started a few weeks ago for BAH/BIH photos (like the BHL one), maybe nice to see these photos there too and keep that one running, there must be more out there...

Columbia ended up with all the ex-HS ones. Including the one bought by Donald Trump.
