Any RAF Docs About?

Hi, Looking for some advice,

I have been asked to fly ATC cadets and I currently hold my PPL and class 2 medical. On doing the ATC bit I have had to go see a RAF doc for the equivalent to fly the cadets. During the medical, I declared I was treatd for a suspected kidly stone over 14 years ago. This seemed to alert the doc.

I have had all test and have to go back to see her on Monday.

Do you think they will pass me?

Can I appeal?

This makes no sense at present.

In what capacity have you been asked to fly them? Why do you need a medical if you hold a CAA class 2?

If you are simply flying them as a PPL then there are restrictions - max 25nm from base, no landaways, min hours (can't remember what they are now), &c &c. They'll be in an ACP somewhere - ACP22 for CCF but I can't remember for ATC. There's no requirement for an RAF medical.

If you've been recruited as an AEF pilot or VGS instructor - which I doubt, as neither system seems desperate for aircrew at the moment - then they will tell you what's required.

For ATC it is in ACP 20A, just had a look and says nothing about needing a medical just says that you need a minimum of 500 hours, 300 of which must be as the primary pilot (60 of which must be in the last 12 months). Also states you're not allowed to do any aerobatics, low level. practice force landings etc.

Just as a matter of interst to myself and no doubt countless PPL holders, could you just enlighten us as to where in the ANO it states the restrictions of 25NM and also the NO landaways bit??

A great many people I know with a PPL regularly trot off at weekends with their wives and girlfriends in tow and certainly land away further than 25 miles. There is a restriction on having done so many landings in the past number of days/weeks, before you can carry a pax, but nothing else that I am aware of.

Winco - tmm is referring to Air Training Corps' regulations, not the ANO.
