It hardly seems a moment ago that Threads appeared asking whether a pilot shortage would be a reality in the near future.

Now the 'near future' has arrived the reality is, it seems for the moment, quite the reverse.

It really has been a tremendous period, since the mid-nineties, with unprecedented opportunities in aviation.

I wonder where we'll be next New Year?

That's my point.

Confidence has gone.

I never worried about my next pay cheque, just how my career was going to develop in the years to come. A few years ago it was possible to plan, in some respects, for the future. My future, luckily, worked out as planned.

Now there are people in their twenties only planning a month ahead!

It says it all?!
