Hello everyone! Does anyone know if there are any organisations around Europe/Africa which carry out humanitarian missions and require volunteer private pilots?
Thanks for any replies.

Most of the ones in Africa I know of require a CPL and many of those also want an IR. Most seem to accept FAA tickets though.

As Julian said, they'll require a CPL at least.

Missionary Air Fellowship require CPL & IR in Kenya, Google for contacts or call NBO Wilson Airport.

Thanks for your replies. I am aware of a few organisations which however ask for a CPL and possibly an IR. Since I have none of these, just a PPL, I am looking for organisations which accept PPL, however I think this is near impossible! But anyway, gave it a try.

I think the clue is in the legal wording 'to fly for hire or reward!' No can do on a PPL.

Go get an FAA CPL/IR like Julian advised and then try and build some contacts in the area that you wish to fly. I imagine it's a pretty demanding enviroment to fly in!

Best of luck

You might also check Air Serv international (http://airserv.org)

They fly for MSF - among others

I don't normally comment in these sections but I do have 1 point that I figured would be worth making.

How would the cost sharing rules work with a PPL, I think from memory that you can only split the costs 4 ways so it would work out pretty expensive to help out.

After a few weeks you'd have probably spent more than going for a CPL costs...

No, on a PPL you can be reimbursed (splitting cost) up to 100% of the actual expenses. That means that you have no expense, but are not allowed to walk away from the flight with money in your backpocket.

(Almost like being an F/O with an ATPL :}:})

Hi Guys
I'm an Indian national holding FAA ASEL and AMEL commercial instrument ratings.I was wondering if any of you guys can help me look at finding some humanitarian pilot jobs in Africa.I applied to PACTEC but they say they can only hire US nationals.I'll be thankful for any information.
Thanks!

You might try starting a thread in the African Forum. A lot more local knowledge there I think.
