View Full Version : Command Bypass Pay on a Base

I took the liberty of copying JAGMAN's post and pasting it here - it is well said and the truth and needs serious discussion:

This whole debate is being driven by a bunch of lazy self interested cowards who snivel away on their bases whilst refusing to come to HKG to undergo the ultimate examination of the Command course. Stay where you are by all means but why the hell should you be on my pay scale without shouldering the bloody responsibility??

If you are given a course date and refuse there should be a 'cooling off' period after which you either front up for the course or stay where you are on FO salary. Your choice.

Come on AOA - sort that out and this problem is solved. Don't put it to a vote because all the cowards would vote against it - obviously.

BPP should not be a freebee for those who can't be bothered or who are simply incompetent. It's for those who are genuinely disadvantaged by CX actions (like DEFO/DE Capt/extensions etc)

Poor argument since same thing could be said about an HK based FO on BPP...

poor response since the Hong Kong based FO is NOT likely to defer his command for the benefit of remaining on the base.
The Base blockers are simply hanging around till they are senior enough to get a command slot ON THE BASE, thereby blocking other guys from getting a base, as well as taking up a bypass pay "slot".

If you don't want command, you lose????:ugh:

Show me where it says in my contract that I have to go to Hong Kong for a command.

Then show me where it says that HK based FO's should get bypass pay, yet based FO's shall not.

That's right - it doesn't

You want a simple solution - take a base :ok:

BY PASS PAY Is meant to compensate for being by passed!!!!! Those who choose to stay on a base are NOT BEING BY PASSED. They just do not have the seniority to hold that base as a Captain.

BPP It is going to the wrong group, And the AOA should negotiate so it goes the the READY WILLING AND ABLE officer who has passed all the criteria, and is actually being by passed.

I understand the company has also decreed that DE CAPT freighter will not generate BPP. So here we have a system supposed to compensate officers for being by passed being a total sham!

On top of all that I fail to understand how a BA pilot with 32 years of service can come into CX and be fast tracked as a Capt......maybe thats the next topic for the labour tribunal

Wise move by Yokebearer to establish a new thread, as this matter has nothing to do with the disquiet that many feel regarding the proposed AOA funding of the UK Appeal.

I suspect Jagman1 has fallen into a trap set by the company. They have chosen to apply the COS to the letter, and pay a few (and I stress.. a few.. handful.. not many... c0ck-all) based FO's BPP. This provides a diversion to the fact they are paying nothing like the BPP they should be paying if they continued to read the COS to letter (Freighter Capts over 55, SO's etc) and promotes the debate that BPP should be renegotiated. With all good traps, here's the sting.... they are waiting to renegotiate it out of the COS altogether.

"Seems to me they are utilizing a loophole in the system" and "Base blockers" are all quotes indicating the FO's have some influence over the system.... they don't... only the company has influence over this.

Save your venom for the Company.....

blame those whom interpret the rules, Not those that are benefitting from them. The company re-interpreted the rules on BPP. i.e. moved the goal posts again. Many Captains left the base to do a command in HKG. There was no option to receive BPP and remain on the base and then they were further disadvantaged by a the Basing policy rule to use jokers. The company has made this mess. don't hate the players hate the game!

Just to first clarify, I am not on BPP or even on a base.

One important point that seems to have been omitted here is that we have extendee's on many of the bases who are taking a base slot that would otherwise be available if they had retired at the contractual age. Shouldn't that therefore make it logical that some FO's get BPP whilst waiting for a command position on a base.

I for one am happy to see anyone get a perk from the company if it is contractual, even if it is not for myself. I can't see how anyone benefits in the long term from the "well if I am not getting it then...." attitude. In the end we will all end up on "O" scale if we take that to the fullest extent.

You raise an excellent point.. :ok:

Very true.

The AOA really needs to sort this mess out.

Wake up to yourself you do a very menial job.You are nothing in the real world outside HK.Get over yourself.Better still stay in HK to get your housing and waste your nasty little self centered life.Take a deep breath and fill your lungs with pollution .Why did you not join Qantas as a cadet ?
