WAM
Published: December 30, 2008, 20:37

Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the cancellation of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the cancellation of all New Year celebrations on Wednesday as an act of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

In support of the Palestinians in Gaza, who are enduring all kinds of killing, destruction and displacement by the Israeli military machinery, Shaikh Mohammad instructed all concerned authorities in Dubai to put this order in place and take necessary procedures to circulate the decision to all concerned parties.

Believe this includes fireworks at the Burj and all special events at hotels and bars etc.

I guess this is Paragraph 8 in " Dubai the biggest and deepest S.H. on planet Earth" then.
W.T.F. ? and what will be the penalties for anyone caught celebrating BTW  :} :=

Back on yer feckin camels. . . . . .

It's great to pretend to be in the 21st Century, quite another thing to carry it off convincingly.

I believe the Islamic new year's day was on December 29, this year. The Jewish one was September 29-30 (I believe). Bit late to cancel either of those so I guess cancelling the Christian (and rest of the world) New Year fun is the next best thing?

I hope someone lets the Palestinians know we all sat around having a minute's silence for them and it helped.

All those Lebos who were hoping to pick up loose, drunken white women tonight must be grinding their teeth.

"Oh habibdi the stars are all in your eyes tonight, *kiss kiss*...."

If they were serious about supporting the Palestinians they should have added a 10% one night tax to all alcohol sold in Dubai on New years and donated the proceeds buy humanitarian aid for gaza. Would have made a world of difference instead of a last minute change that doesn't make one bit of difference to anyone outside dubai.

Maybe we could cancel Ramadan next year if Hamas fires off rockets at Israel again:hmm:

No fire works to show support for the Palestinians....? They will certainly be letting off a few...

Bl**dy typical...................they conveniently forgot to mention that Hamas has been lobbing 'fireworks' over for a considerable amount of time before they retaliated.

Thats right, cancel the christian festival that'll make a big difference:mad:

This was simply a a stunt to make the headlines.

From what I understand, private & indoor celebrations will go ahead as planned. It is only outdoor celebratory events such as fireworks etc that will be canceled.

Just look around you during the "Holy month of Ramadam".

Only the poor Muslims comply with it's requirements all the others just continue the party.

The nice thing is that you can not beat reality. The UAE snake is eating it's own tail.

Just talk to the Russion Whores that get invited to the Palace, they know what goes on behind the scene.

Yup it was a great night in AUH, plenty of food, grog and live music.

Agree with the sentiment of UAE support for Palestinians, but there aren't too many Israelis in UAE to inconvenience!!!!!

This thread has taken a sectarian and a racist twist in full violation of the rules of these forums and should be closed down, as for those idiots of you that have no respect for the dead women, children and elderly have some shame for you are no better than ****e you speak.

The cancelation has nothing to do with being Christian, Muslim or Jew it has everything to do with a sign of respect, for only Civilians suffer in such conflicts, so you are all upset because you didnt get to drink your booze and get pissed and sleep with your russian hookers big deal, yet 400 people are dead and 2000 injured.

I wonder if you would have celebrated NYE if this was in the USA/UK or in your nick of the wood???, your all absolutly disgusting and as for those that are condoning what the Genocide of the Palestinian people I tell you there is a god and for you will eventually have to answer to him and remember Palestine is occupied and under UN and Geneva convention an occupied people are allowed to resist an occupation by what ever means they have, maybe you need to read up on your UN and Geneva convention.

Further more it wasnt Hamas that has contineud its aggression remember Israel is the one violating in exccess of 1000 UN resolution in the past 40 years and also it is the agressor when it kidnaps members of the Palestinian parliments as well as kills and tortures civilians and thats just in Palestine and need we mention Lebanon, and resolution 425, 1701 and so and so forth, maybe ready some history for it was Israel that blew up the St George Hotel and killed god knows how many British Soldiers in the 1940s or have you forgotten that part of History, perhaps you only have selective perceptions or better still you have no brains at all.

I managed all three. No wait, I didn't actually sleep... bugger. Anyway I managed to have fun AND observe a minute of silence for our Pals.

I tell you there is a god and for you will eventually have to answer to him

No there isn't. No tooth fairy either. Or Santa (sorry!). The sooner everyone stops believing in fairy tales the sooner rubbish like what these lot are doing to each other over there will end. There's always religion involved, isn't there? :=

Weren't Hamarse and what's the other lot.... Fatter? Weren't they at each others' throats not so long ago? Loads of innocents killed but you didn't hear anyone crying out in anguish then. All very selective isn't it?

Wannabee Aviator , your origonal sentiment is correct. This post is turning political and therefore should be moderated. However dont say the right thing and then add your farthermore opinion about Hammas in contravention of what you your self had just suggested. There are too sides to every story. We only get one in this part of the world. I think its time for the moderator to intervene.

wannabe-aviator - you seem to forget the disco's, bars, restaurants and buses that have been blown up by arseholes in the name of religion plus the deaths of countless innocent Israelis. Get down off your soap box and read the ****e that you've written which I find personally offensive.

Long may the security barrier stand and prevent innocent lives being taken.

Now Mr. Wannabe I think you have scored one big own goal in yr last post.

I wonder if you would have celebrated NYE if this was in the USA/UK or in your nick of the wood???, your all absolutly disgusting and as for those that are condoning what the Genocide of the Palestinian

Many of us remember watching the street parties being held as the tragedy that was the Twin Towers was concluding. They weren't a pre organised bash to celebrate a new year, they were parties specifically to celebrate 1,000's of deaths.

So please do not try to put moral blackmail on me for having enjoyed a night out with my wife to celebrate the start of a New Year and to wish for calm and understanding of peoples differences everywhere.

Trawl back through my posts and you wll see I used to often speak out against the policies of the Israeli Govt towards Palestinians. Strangely my utterings were every bit as effective as the cancellation of the New Year celebrations...................as in they had no effect whatsoever on the situation.

I hope that eventually the situation will be resolved, but it doesn't seem to be on the cards any time soon. Too many bitter memories on both sides, and intollerance levels that are not abating with time seem to be the problem as much as anything else.

"Act of solidarity with palestinian people...."
Really...!?!!
Just one question:
What did the arab world to try to solve this palestinian-israeli conflict for the last 40...50 years, and to try to give peace a chance for those palestinian people.....????

And by the way,Where is the act of solidarity for all the civilian& innocent iraqi people killed everyday by those suicide attacks in Iraq...?
Politic my friends politic nothing else.....
