Heard a rumour today that 6 A330's are to be removed from the fleet in the next few months. This could also explain why they want 30+ A330 captains to transfer to the 777.
Anyone heard anthing?

Could be because they are planning to get A330-300's. Maybe more an exchange than a reduction.

Emirates Airline - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emirates_Airline)

According to this, 330-300s not due until 2011.

We at EY have just been told 10 A330's are turning up next year........ you want to know where 6 of them are coming from

Well, considering that 'KQ was originally supposed to leave the fleet back in September 2007 (followed by her equally venerable sisters) I'm not at all surprised to hear this..

EY's 330s are supposed to be brand new airframes. according to Air Transport World on December 24th :

Wednesday December 24, 2008
Rolls-Royce inked a deal with Etihad Airways for provision of Trent 700EPs to power eight A330s. Contract is valued at $575 million and includes long-term services under a TotalCare agreement. Aircraft are scheduled for delivery between 2009 and 2011. Order will bring Etihad's fleet of Rolls-powered A330s to 24.

I think the global financial crisis is starting to show its head. Yes there are A333,s on order ( and many other types). We need to remember most of these aircraft are financed , therefore EK might well be struggling in the current times to get credit. Sell back / Get out clauses in leases etc. might well be taken advantage off to raise capital. I think this is only the start of it.

By the way guys , come across to the dark side, you will love it. Apart from a seat thats not even suitable for a tractor and an FMC thats dumber than an early cell phone. It is a superb machine with a fab route network.

What? You mean that the seats are worse than a 737, and the FMC is stupider? WOW!

Dunno about the seats, but the FMC's a touch better than the 737...and at least the flight control system lets you fly the machine..and the electronic checklist keeps you out of trouble..and the fuel system is a whole lot better!

Trimotor...you might want to reconsider your remarks about the fuel system considering the recent high profile roll backs. Unless of course you have been too busy learning to use the FMC!!!!:ugh:

Sorry boys. I did not intend to Hijack the thread. Last thing I wanted to do was turn this into a Boeing/Bus slagging match. Now back to the point , are they selling some of the busses and will the proposed expansion go ahead. I dont think it will to the extent that was forecast. There is just no money and these planes are financed. So what are the predictions for 2009 ( I have a suspicion that a lot more than new years eve celbrations are going to be cancelled)

Heard some figures last night (unconfirmed) comparing the ThreeLatey's payload on the DXB-JFK sector versus the Treble7. 6% more pax/payload for... wait for it... an extra 80 tonnes of fuel burn(!)

Surely someone will set the record straight and tell me these figures are wrong.

Just download a 201 and a 203 flightplan for the same day and do the maths - it's mind boggling! :{
