1,000 ground staff went on strike in protest at the halving of their annual bonus. A trade union representing the workers said the three-hour strike had been a warning and their action could escalate.

But in talks with managers of Hong Kong Airport Services (HAS), staff representatives agreed not to take further action ahead of fresh talks on the dispute on January 5.

The three-hour strike - involving more than one-third of the airport's 3,000 ground staff - caused severe disruption to baggage and cargo handling and airside operations.

Hong Kong Airport Services, a joint venture between airlines Cathay Pacific (SEHK: 0293) and Dragonair, runs all airside bus services. It provides passenger handling for 13 airlines and ramp and cargo services for 37 airlines.

Wait. But I thought the employees were so grateful for having a two weeks bonus, instead of nothing. How ungrateful of them, the managers must think. :E

At least one group has the guts to stand up for their entitlements. Well done.
Heard a rumour, ATC next (?).

Cafe City, you don't have to worry about ATC. How can you call for a strike without a "real and strong" union? Our so-called Union is only a social club. The best they can do is to organize some "eat together" events.

F***ing Unbelievable !!!!! :ugh:

Okay, all the expats get screwed over, but the news pumped out to all, including ground staff is that they get, one way or another, a FULL 13th month, based on their respective monthly salaries. This is what we were ALL led to 'believe'.

Now, what surprises me, the said ground staff, Cathay's own staff AND locals (Hong Kong's 'own') are striking... my, we are in a happy work environment, aren't we ??!!!
I guess, just as one lie leads to 1000 others, ONE f*** up (not that there's only been one) will lead to MANY other F*** UPS ! CX is doing a splendid job themselves of proving to its STAFF (soon to be the world) just how well they can't instill commaraderie, morale and general work ethic to the very people who keep this company in operation. Good one, CX Management : Now you have even your
OWN striking against you !

When will you wake up and smell the bloody roses ?????
Maybe all responsible upstairs should enroll in their OWN learner's world module : CRM - Competency Remedial Managing. All this training you have so-called had, this lifelong experience - I'm SURE it wasn't aligned with screwing ALL your staff..but you have managed to succeed even with this one! Yes, CX really IS achieving all these 'milestones' :D

A**holes !

:ok:YUP - and these are the people you work for buddy.. But better shut the f... up and take the shaft, right.. Thats what by far the majority does anyways.. Bitch and whine in the cockpit - thats as far as it goes. Sad. But true. :ok:

Full credit and respect to HAS for taking action. Reminds me of the mainland pilots at that - what was it - airline in Yunnan Province - they had the guts too..
Now where is my popcorn :ok:

If you meant to refer to HAS staff always being "led to believe" they will get a 13th month - then I don't think the HAS staff are silly enough not to be able to recognise the difference between the wording "guaranteed 13th month" and "discretionary 13th month" in their contract, just like the rest of us.....

the news pumped out to all

The only other thing that get's pumped out, is just like news really - except you do it in a very small room with your trousers round your ankles. The only true fact is what's in your bank at the end of the month - not what any newspaper, union rep or manager tells you in the 'news'.
