If anyone's heading towards the Catalan Costa Brava tonight (Friday 26th) bring some warm underwear.

A force 9 is blowing from the NE, the Roses-Cadaques road has been closed due to snow, and there's 10cms of snow on our steep mountain road outside right now at 1630z.

Forecast this afternoon was for wave height 5m - 7m onshore.

The Christmas Boogie at the Empuriabrava dropzone today was cancelled.

Landing/departing at GRN isn't a problem as it's well inland, but here on the coast...brrrrrrrr !

Parts of Spain have had a cold spell which seems to have lasted for weeks. A forty year low for a November day was recorded on the Costa Blanca (where a maximum of only 10 was reached one day late in the month), whilst overnight lows of -7 and -6 were recorded in Salamanca and at Madrid Barajas respectively at around the same time, not to mention the snow in places such as Galicia. On one night over Christmas, Valencia recorded a low of -1 and was colder than southern England.
What is not widely known is that, apparently, the average elevation above sea level in Spain is the second highest in Europe (after Switzerland) so keeping close to the coast is a good idea!

Four deaths over the past few days - people crushed by waves or swept out to sea. Many sea-front promenades destroyed - Escala for example. Still raining today, but wind less.

Well, a friend of mine was cruising yesterday from Barcelona, and she was a bit concerned about the ship rocking. In contrast with this, where I live, in the usually wet northwest we have having little water this year, plenty of sunshine and not too many storms. :ok:
