I heard a rumour the last flight was going to be to LA so they could then move it on to their next owner...or the boneyard.

Last Perth service is scheduled at the moment for Boxing day. Last LAX is due to depart AKL on the 29th and ex that evening back to AKL. However, the ground engineer in LAX has been told to get parking for 2 extra services from AKL to LA on the 30th and 31 of December. The aircraft would then stay there before being ferried to their final destination. Very sad.

Come on all, these 743 were great machines, way before the intoduction of the 744.

A little over used at the end, with lack of grond time and spares......but thats the way of the world nowdays.

Alot of the boys and girls cut their teeth on these classic birds.

A sad farewell.......

Interesting negative comments on what has been a great aircraft.

This is also the end of an era that began with Qantas getting Catalinas in the 40s. The B747 300 is the last of Qantas's aircraft with a Flight Engineer. All that is left for FEs on civilian airlcraft registered in this country are B727F and the Connie.60+ years of history finishes in the next few days with little recognition of the significance of our demise.

Does anyone know the final hours/cycles of these birds?

They must be some of the highest hour passenger 747s still flying

Heard the other day that EBY racked up 90 000 hours on its last Perth Service..

What a great aircraft they have been, owe Qantas nothing, neglected in the later years by Management, outsourcing heavy which just destroys the reliability of any fleet....the short term coat savings or should I say Management Bonuses, which in the end destroys good aircraft..
