Its been done to death over the years; a few serious posts - this one isnt just a bit of fun. High above Bay of biscay early hours this morning I had a SAT of -77 ! Watching the temperature drop we climbed to FL450 even there it was ISA- 16. Coming back the other way there was a band of air about three thousand feet thick and temperaure change of around 12c.

This flying never ceases to amaze sometimes,

This was at FL370 it begs the question anyone outhere seen it colder?

:ok:

My dad was flying Orlando to New York in a Citation X a couple of weeks ago with a ground speed of 781 mph. No idea of SAT, but pretty fast ;)

I have seen SAT -88, in a learjet over the Andaman sea at FL 490, that worked out from memory at about ISA -25. We left Muscat Oman where the surface temp was +52c, [but of officially not more than +47c, otherwise the locals have to stop work!]

Flaps 88

Standard trop is at -56, so -88 SAT would work out to ISA -32. Burrrr...

I saw ISA -18 over Germany. SAT was -75 at FL450. Had to climb to 470 to get the temp up (ac only approved for SAT -74). 0.78 climbing at a 1000 fpm to 470, impressive since the cieling of the ac is 470. Descending was not an option as I really wanted to get up there :)
