There was a collective sigh of relief across the Vendée Globe fleet this morning, with the news that Yann Elies, who had broken his left femur two days ago on Generali, had been successfully picked up by the Australian Navy frigate, the HMAS Arunta.

A happy Marc who had diverted to stay alongside the injured fellow sailor. seen here with his new hat from HMAS Arunta and the unmaned Generali drifting in the background awaiting a crew from Perth to sail it back.

One report says she was on her way but the Oz frigate reached him before she got there.
