Does anybody know anything (good or bad) about this airline. My wife has some flights on hold with them. Forgot to ask her where she is going but it's either S.Africa or Russia.

I'd never even heard of them so all feedback welcome !

They fly to Moscow DME twice daily :)

And they do so under a codeshare agreement with bmi, who also operate on the route. Check both websites to compare fares on the same flights.

Flown and worked with them a number times. Well-funded, well organised, western-style on board service, good crews and maintenance.
Normally quite competitive with fares.
Transaero operate a number of ITs to Thailand, and they were quick to send flights down to there to rescue stranded Russians; something the British were not!

Well that's one point of view Rainboe. However, I think most people wanted to get back to their jobs (if they still had them), and getting out of Thailand by any other means wasn't easy. Paradise it may be when everything's running OK, but like all such places, the system breaks down completely when things go wrong.
Whilst I would agree that many Brits just sat there and waited for something to happen, many did try to get out, by simply couldn't because all the 'relief' flights were full of the nationals who had been rescued.
Take a bus in Thailand? Are you serious? They can't operate aircraft safely, let alone a bus fleet!

There are some ex CO aircraft in the fleet, but all the ones I've flown on had a full Transaero interior. All the western-built aircraft in the fleet are on the Irish or Bermuda register.

A lot of the Transaero pilots were trained onto the Boeings by BA some years ago, so their standards will be good!

There were other means of transport! It comes to decision time- do you try and get out by your own means, or sit on your arse for as long as it takes assuming it will end anyday and in the meantime scream for British government rescue? People travel abroad now, and many of them are naive, regarding HMG as some sort of rescue organisation if anything goes wrong. And things did not break down in Thailand. Pat Pong was functioning, the street markets were functioning, power, water and public transport were working. The system did not 'break down'! Brits fell to pieces when they started missing X Factor and 'Enders!

Don't know much about them but trained some of their initial pilot cadre during their startup days back in 1993 time-frame. (Plus or minus a year)

Transaero has been a regular visitor to SSH over the past two weeks with their 747. Thought they were a freight operation until I found this thread.
