All aircraft operating out of, into or even just through the Avalon CTA (whether the latter is active or not!) are required to make broadcasts according to that instrument, which states that a CA/GRS will be operating there outside tower hours. Starting Dec 1.

This was published as an 'instrument' which I picked up by accident as I recently subscribed to the CASA email notification service.

No mention of it in the current ERSA or in NOTAM, where it surely belongs.

Are all pilots supposed to know about all applicable instruments? I thought keeping up with changes in the AIP, ERSA procedures, and to a lesser degree (for day to day ops) changes in CAO's/CAR's, was complex enough, what are the bureaucrats in Canberra thinking? :ugh:

The non-promulgation of an AIP-SUP at least a month in advance, is just the way the tin pot organizations running the show do things these days.

The Avalon situation is only going to get worse, not helped at all by the decision makers who

1. Don't want to have anything to do with it, but have to because of their position in the organization, and/or
2. Don't have the experience or know-how to administer it.

And watch out for VCA's, cos' the instrument is sure to be interpreted in various ways.

Good luck on Monday, at least the chaps on CAGRO have history there.

PS It is important that the industry know, however, that

H11/08 - Data Integrity and Change Control Specialist is current.

(We're doomed)

AIC H18/08 - Establishment of a CA/GRS at Avalon has been issued, effective 02 DEC.

No reinforcement that it's a CTAF (R) tho'.
