I think it was implemented at the start of this month. And there were a couple of documents on the BOM site but nothing that really explained it well enough. Besides adding the day of the month infront of the times, the only other thing that has really changed is the use of the work BECMNG, meaning a slow change apposed to using FM

Im just hoping someone can give me there opinion and possibly a referance that i can find on the meaning of it.

If for example i had this TAF:

TAF AMD YRTI 220549Z 2206/2312
31013KT 9999 LIGHT SHOWERS OF RAIN SCT030 BKN090
FM221100 26007KT 9999 LIGHT SHOWERS OF RAIN BKN005
FM221300 25005KT 9999 CAVOK
BECMG 2215/2217 02005KT 9999 LIGHT SHOWERS OF RAIN BKN005

So...
FM 220600 line 1 is valid
FM 221100 line 2 is valid (But reqs alt or hldg fuel from 1030-1330)
FM 221300 line 3 is valid
...now line 4. Is it valid from 2215 or 2217 until 2312? Does it require 30min buffers?

Im glad my met exam was done before this came in. What was wrong with the old way? it worked?

The way I read line 4 is:
Valid from 22nd 1500Z to 22nd 1700Z. As for the buffers not sure with that one but I do agree that they should have just left it but they are now trying to make it to the ICAO standard of the 36hr TAF at major airports....I think.

Again this is all my interpretation so I'm happy to be corrected! :ok:

Assuming you did your AIP amendment the other day, have a look at page GEN 3.5 -6 para 3.6.6 and page ENR 1.1 - 93 para 73.2.7

Or if you would like a little plain language & missed the current edition of flight safety...

Thanks dan

I have jepps, so they havnt been updated yet

So basically altimeter, i think you are incorrect. BECMG 2215/2217 does not mean that weather begins at 2215 and finishes at 2217.

It means it will gradually change between those 2 times remaining untill the end of the TAF validity of 2312

So an alternate or hldg will be required from 1430? can someone confirm?

So is this another example of someone doing something for the sake of justifying their job? Sounds very similiar to me to the old terms GRADU and RAPID........if anyone remembers those....and begs the question, why were they **** canned in the first place?

There is also a powerpoint slideshow and pamphlet available on the BOM website (here (http://www.bom.gov.au/reguser/by_prod/aviation/)) that explains all the changes.

BECMG 2215/2217 02005KT 9999 LIGHT SHOWERS OF RAIN BKN005

Between 1500 and 1700 on the 22nd, the weather will become:

02005KT 9999 LIGHT SHOWERS OF RAIN BKN005

Capt Fathom... and as it is a TAF and not a TTF it requires a 30min buffer as per aip.

So if my arrival is after 1430 i would require an alt or hldg? is that correct? thats how i read it
