It is getting to that time of the year when I need to shell out for my Multi/IR renewal. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced (cheapest even) centre for this. Can I do it on a sim?

Regards

not sure about the multi engine rating, mut i know the MEIR renewal can be done in the sim.

if you passed your test last year you can renew on the sim this year but it has to be in the aircraft the following year. it alternates every year.

if you live in Maidenhead, you may want to try stapleford or biggin hill. i know stapleford to renewals but not sure which outfits are in biggin hill.

I also did mine at fly-pft - flight instrument training (http://www.fly-pft.co.uk) last year (Sim) and am doing mine there again this year (a/c).

Highly recommended!

If you live in Maidenhead try Blackbushe Aviation. Closer to you and not too bad. They have other schools in Redhill and Shoreham. They do have a sim too I believe.
They have PA34s for ME/IR training. Best to get in contact early as aircraft can get booked up in blocks for training/exams in advance.

Hi Guys!!!

Avoid Stapleford Flight Centre at all costs !!! Especially CFI Colin Dobney(Rude and hungry for money) and their old Seneca 1. Very expensive school and need to be a way more organised and friendly.

Consider Spanish Schools in Madrid especially for Renewals.

Goodluck!!!

If you do it on SIM, you don't renew your MEP Class rating - so in the aircraft may be best.

Try www.aerofanfto.com (http://www.aerofanfto.com) - Fly to Madrid in the morning, do Flight test, back home in the evening. All in...flights, test fees, aircraft, examiner - 650 Euro (500 GBP)

Theres nothing wrong with Stapleford's fleet or their staff. 'like Mr Horgy says on your other post on this site Colin Dobney doesn't suffer fools ,he's like the Simon Cowell of Flight instructors.
You have'nt been very explicit as to why you are whingeing maybe you will share it with us ,if not, then you sound to me like your just trying to promote Madrid

If you are taking into consideration go to Madrid, have a look in TAS flight club,http://www.clubdevuelotas.com (http://www.clubdevuelotas.com/) ,I have a friend working there, call if you want, Seneca is for 350 €/h and 150€ to examiner.
The problem is that you need another pilot to share costs because you have to go to Salamanca(LESA) or Valladolid(LEVD) which are 1 h from Madrid,so you go and your friend goes back, and that´s it.

Ask for Craig or Malcolm

You can only renew your SPA-IR on a sim if you did it in a a/c last time. But as a someone else has said this wont give you your MEP, not that this should bother you unless you plan on using it.

I can also recommend Craig at HG. Very good.

But please check your English next time you post.

Where you do your Multi/IR renewal

Sounds like your about to give a recommendation, not ask for advice. Surely it should read Where to do my Multi.IR renewal. Or Even better - Where to renew my IR/MEP.

"Sounds like your about to give a recommendation, not ask for advice. Surely it should read Where to do my Multi.IR renewal. Or Even better - Where to renew my IR/MEP."

There is no hidden agenda. Doing it at my usual school will cost me the best part of £1000 :{:{. for that ££ I could do it in spain. I was recommended west wales in a sim for £400 which is just about affordable for me before xmas. I also need to renew my medical in dec £300+ perhaps :(. I would ideally like to do the multi and IR in one flight.

Can you do ir renew on a single and seperate multi renewal flight? would this count as having valid multi/IR on licence?

Deputy Dog.....

No.

Renew your IR on a single and you're not allowed to exercise it's privs in a multi....small matter of asymetrics my dear chap.

For those looking to renew their single pilot, multi engine instrument rating go see Keygrip in Orlando. Have some fun while you're out there, else take the missis!!:ok:

For those who don't want to go stateside - and for the OP in Maidenhead, go and see Wycombe Air Centre at High Wycombe - sim or a/c.

Best value twin (BE76) in the UK at Peterborough Conington (EGSF). Google "Flying Club Conington". They can also put you in touch with an examiner to do the renewal with you....

... and yes you can renew your ME rating and IR during the same flight. Most folk I know do it that way....

Is there anywhere that will do a renewal at a reasonable price in the space of an afternoon?

Can a JAA MEIR renewal really be done in Orlando?

Is there anywhere near oxford that does IR renewals?

Come to think of it, I'll have to renew my SE class rating too!

Just thought I'd ask.

Cessnagirl:

Aeros in gloucester have an FNPTII and/or Seneca II for MEIR renewal - you could prob get a sim session + renewal done in a day.

Don't bother with a sim session and a multi trip. You'll need to pay two examiner fees , one for each trip, nver mind the pain of sitting next to an examiner twice. Just get in the plane and do it all in one go . My last one took an hour to do the lot and cost £500 for the exmainer fee, aproaches and an hour in the aircraft. I think passing the LPC will also count as the hour with an instructor to get the SEP signed off.

So go for SEP, MEP IR_SPA-ME and IMC all in on trip and for one examiner fee.

PM me if you want a couple of non school based contacts in the gloucestershire area.

Mid Anglia School of Flying at Cambridge Airport has a PA-34-200 Seneca available and ideal for recurrent multi-engine and IR training, revalidation and renewals. This can all be carried out at Cambridge where we have an NDB, ILS/DME and, when manned, Radar Service. 01223 294466.
