Has anyone actually received a back-payment of NFTC IE or have they categorically rejected all of the claims?

I have chap, and know about 4 or 5 others who definitely have, and more on the grapevine. Most knocking on the door of £2k

It's an issue that came up recently, when someone returning from NFTC (NATO Flying Training Canada, where up until recently the RAF has sent 20 fast jet studes a year to conduct the Tac/Weapons course otherwise done at RAF Valley on 19 Sqn) discovered that all the studes since, like, forever! had been entitled to claim IE (incidental expenses) to cover living away from home, but no one had been told this, hence a whole bunch of decently sized back-claims have arrived in the system....

When the stude's were over there, were they getting LOA and or LSSA? I wonder if the tucano students sent to Australia would have the same IE allowance issues?

Any Ideas?

LOA/LSSA AFAIK yes

As for the aussie tucano studes, I suspect that anyone that was out there pre-JPA would be in for a world of hurt. I managed to scrape through that net (just!)

Mine was sent back with an excuse that the form of IE that applies to this claim didn't exist pre-JPA which is when I was there. Not sure I believe it though. I'll try local PSF I think. I find it odd that some have got it and others not.

As for the Aussie question, I was under the impression that claims had to be submitted within 6 years which would put the Oz studes over the time limit.

Was wondering if you found out whether the pre JPA claim line has been true. I was spun the line from the policy makers that you had to retain a room at your parent unit..... another rule not in the JSP. I was then told that even though my claim was correct with respect to the JSP, i wasn't in keeping with the spirit of the regs.
Any help welcome!

Same sort of attitude I encountered. The scribblies were probably right when they said that it was designed for people on a week-long course or something, not for people who were ostensibly posted but technically parented by another unit.

I put in a claim for a UK-based hold which went through fine, but the allowances girl said the NFTC ones might be trickier as LOA is meant to cover you for the inconvenience of living abroad, in the same way IE is meant to cover you for the inconvenience of being away for a few days.

Not sure it was LOA, as pretty sure the studes were in receipt of that. Think it might have been moving expenses etc? As the only baggage entitlement was what you could take on your flight

Here's gen from OC PSF at Valley, and also the Sgt who approves the claims at High Wycombe:

You can claim IE if you were over in Canada from the 1st April 06 onwards, but you must have kept a room at Valley or another UK base in order to claim (so if you moved all your stuff back to your parents' house you're screwed). In addition, for all claims between 1 Apr 06 and 1 Apr 07, to claim IE you will need receipts (IE only became non-receiptable after Apr 07). All claims for time spent out there before 1 Apr 06 will automatically get rejected as IE did not exist during that time.

The authoriser is happy if you put your stuff in a garage or if a few of you grouped your stuff into one room. As long as you left anything at an RAF base in the UK (and who's to prove you didn't leave something in a mate's garage at Valley?) then you'll be fine.

That sounds remarkably grown up of them! And who's to say, even failing a mates garage that one didn't leave one's car at valley packed with one's stuff for the duration...
