Hi all

Just wondering if any Aussies (or otherwise for that matter) are planning to travel to Bahrain to watch this game on 19 November and whether there has been any expat/Aussie supporter 'event' organised?

Thx in advance for any replies!! :ok:

Hi,

Long time reader, first time poster.

I received an email from the Australian Group in Bahrain saying that they've put together a package including Lunch (Beer included), transportation to and from the match, supporter's shirt, match ticket, prizes draw (2 tickets to return match, 2 tickets to Australia v Japan, Signed Framed Players Jersey).

Will post it in "Jet Blast" (http://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/347578-australia-v-bahrain-19-november-2008-a.html) forum if anyone is interested.

:ok:

Gents

Words of advice from a previous experience. Try and sit all together!!!! Went for the World Cup qualifier Bahrain vs Trinidad a couple of years ago, and what an experience. We had rocks and seats thrown at us. The second that the match was finished, we were all escorted by the police onto the field for two hours until they could clear the car parks.

Sore losers, and because of their hospitality, won't be back there in a hurry.

Ouch! Doesn't sound particularly fun V! Maybe they were sore from losing against a lowly Trinidad as opposed to a more 'respectable' opponent like Oz :O.

In any case, I hope the police have memories of what you've mentioned and get on top of it before any potential trouble begins.

As far as sitting together, on following up from the email addy supplied in the thread that was deleted, if that function takes off then there should be a relatively large contingent of Aussies at this match so I'm hoping for safety in numbers!! :ok:

Lunch (Beer included), transportation to and from the match, supporter's shirt, match ticket, prizes draw (2 tickets to return match, 2 tickets to Australia v Japan, Signed Framed Players Jersey).:hmm::hmm::hmm: You better watch the match from one of the Clubs (Rugby, British, Yatch Club, etc.). Going to the match after eating and drinking where, most likely, drinking will surpass eating, isn't a good idea.

V, thanks for the info. I was told that there is going to be a dedicated entrance and section for Australian supporters. I've never been to a match in Bahrain, but I've heard similar stories about the spectators. I think that the organisers would have considered this in putting together the package.

As for drinking pre the match and then going to it (considering that the thread which I showed what you get as part of the package was deleted), the lunch is between 1pm-4.30pm with the match starting at 6pm. People will get a chance to sober up a little before it.

My view is that the real festivities will happen after the match (starting at 9pm). Food is also included in the package after the match. For those that don't come for the lunch, there will be a sausage sizzle and burgers in addition to beers/wine - I think that they are hoping to drag people that didn't go to the lunch back so that all Aussies can party together. However the drinks will be at the standard hotel rates. With the package, you get your beers and wines close to Club Rates (BD1.500), so I thought that it was a better deal.

To me, it looks like they catered for everyone.

Anyone that wants details can PM me and I'll send you them, but be fast because they say that the package closes at the end of the month.

Hu, check your mail, will be good to meet up - down a few and start the chant: "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!!!"

;)

I wonder what Brasil thinks about Australia ....I am sure they would not refer to a lowly Australia, would they?

Good luck in your game

Hahaha ... certainly Australia suck compared to the big boys. Thx for the good wishes! Another thing Aussie is certainly good at is underestimating lower-ranked opponents and going into games half-cocked. Hope that doesn't happen this time.

This comes from the wife of one of the directors of the Australian Association of Bahrain.

The package mentioned above costs BD 50.-
There are 1500 seats in a separate area reserved for Australian fans and their friends.
Regular tickets will cost BD 7.500

The last few matches where BAH was playing another country, all noice-making stuff (drums, horns, trumpets etc) as well as "large" flags were confiscated from the visitors.(never to be seen again, of course)
The locals were permitted to take all THEIR stuff in. :=

BD7.500 for a match ticket??? I did not know that. Slight correction though, there's a raffle ticket worth BD5.000 (prizes look good) that they are donating to junior football development bringing the package price to BD55.000.

So they are probably making about BD2.000 - 3.000 profit by my calculation:

Ticket: 7.500
Raffle: 5.000
Lunch: 15.000 (I heard it was something like that for the Australia Day Event this year)
Shirt: 15.000 (Suq Price)
Taxis: 10.000

Total: 52.500???

So is the package good value? Are my guesstimates correct?

Could someone please advise?

Without wanting to advertise the event (so I haven't included any links or email addresses, people can PM me if interested - I just want to hang with a heap of Aussies):

My mates thought that it was a good thing and they are based in Aus.

The way that I calculated it was that you get, depending on your consumption, about BD20-30 worth of booze for free and who doesn't want that??

Being new to the ME, I'm hoping to meet more Aussies and this forum, I'm told, is a great way to do it.

There is one other running "Itunes" and it should be binned also .

There are other more appropriate "social " forums in place for these threads .

Other likewise threads have been binned by the Mods for less .Perhaps it should be moved to another forum that is better suited for your need to meet people .

However Mods ...be consistent
