150 hr syllabus and change school

Hi guys,

I enrolled in the 150 hrs CPL course and received my GFPT back in 2005, after that I went back to work and hadn't done any flying until earlier this year I started my training in a different flight school. Apparently, I'm almost ready for CPL flight test. I spoke to my current CFI about my GFPT training record still being held by previous flight school where I did my GFPT. I was told the GFPT training record is not required for CPL flight test as along as I have GFPT endorsed on my license and all GFPT flight hours in my logbook. I'm very anxious about this because I thought prior to the start of CPL flight test, you have to show all training records to the testing officer. Could someone give me some advise on this please?
By the way is there a timeframe for completing the 150 hours course?

I could be wrong but it's not so much that you need "GFPT" endorsed in your log book or SPL, rather that you have the pre-requisite hours in the various stages of the day VFR syllabus. A GFPT is just something that gives you passenger carrying privileges on a SPL. Your current training school CFI is the one with the responsibility to make sure all your training hours are correct before putting you up for flight test.

A lot has been added to the day VFR syllabus since I taught 150 hour candidates which seems to clear up ambiguities. Section 2.8 of the above link in particular may provide a stumbling block that your CFI does not understand clearly in regard to the 150 hour course. 2.8.7 states that if you leave a course than you must get written confirmation of being enrolled on the course from the original CFI to provide to your next training orgsanisation as proof of compliance with the syllabus, a copy of the students records must also be provided.
If this is not possible than it would be best to talk to casa regarding the issue and what else can be done.

Jump on me if I'm wrong but don't you have a limited time to complete the 150 hour course?

Also, a guy doing his CPL at the same school as me was in a very similar position. The CFI wouldn't recognise any of his hours until he sighted his training records.

The link above sets that out quite clearly in 2.8.7 of the Day VFR document what you need to do if you change schools.

Can anyone shed some light on the time frame for completion?

There is (was?) no time limit for a commercially trained person - unless it was specified in the school's syllabus. Last time I was a CFI I re-wrote the syllabus so that *every* student who trained there trained under the 150hr syllabus. I included GFPT, PPL, NVFR, Multi and aeros within the syllabus and all IF time was part of an eventual CIR. That way any student could 'pause' training at any point but still be able to resume in the future if s/he should ever decide to gain a CPL &/or CIR, and not be forced to fly to the 200hr minimum.

Of course they would still have to meet minimum skill standards so, like any syllabus, even though the syllabus specified a minimum of 150hrs it still required a standard of skill to be reached before being recommended for a test.

There is not time limit on the 150 integrated CPL program, you must adhere to all the requirements of the Day VFR syllabus.

Your present school must have a letter from the CFI of your previous school stating that you were in fact enrolled in a 150 CPL course or you must be enrolled in a 200 hour CPL program.

The onus is on the CFI of the flight school to obtain this confirmation from your previous school.

If your original school did not enrol you in the 150 hour course, you cannot transfer into one at the new school.
