I am aware that with reservations that the B777 and the Airbus fleet have fail safe chutes, should the door be inadvertently opened from the outside. Is this assumption correct and are there any other pax a/c that are 'fail safe'?

Cant speak for the B777 but the A319/20/21 family have a disarm feature on the pax doors should they opened from the outside. The girt bar goes from being in an armed position to a disarmed position should the opening mechanism be activated from the outside of the door.

The 747, 757 and 767 doors SHOULD automaticaly dis arm when the door is opened from outside.

and the same with the 777. When the handle is pulled out, the slide is disarmed.:\

146/RJ and ATP doors disarm if opened from the outside
