Quite rightly too. Nice one, Wootton Bassett :D

Whilst it's obviously a sad occasion each time, it is really nice to see a community that shows such respect.

Whilst l lived in and around Calne, I think WB wins big time AND it was never done to 'attract' media attention, which is usually a double-edged sword.

Well done all.

The people of Peterborough take note.

Lovely to know that good old fashioned spirit is alive and well. I fear, though, that when the older boys of my father's generation begin to fade, that the younger generation will be less likley to turn out.

I hope I'm wrong.

Beatriz,

I'm not too sure if I qualify as 'young people of tomorrow' ( 46 ) but I've never been inthe services, just worked with them a lot on development Harriers & Hawks ( my father, still with us, served in the Fleet Air Arm as engine fitter during WW2, then did 37 years at Hawkers ).

I'd turn up & show my respect if Horsham council did anything similar to Wooton Basset, and so would my similar aged neighbour who has never had any connection with the military, just been to Duxford etc a few times & gawped at Spitfires !

There is hope - I'm a volunteer at a military aviation museum, and one of the most heartening sights is children having their photo's taken by parents, sitting at the controls of a Hunter, bone-dome & all.

Wooton Basset deserves all the praise it gets, and other coucils etc should take note - I'll be sending a cutting to mine !

Decent people doing the decent thing. Not only do they do proper honour to our fallen, they inspire hope where our institutions and leaders daily fail to. Well done, and well done to the Armed Forces for recognising such decency in the civil population. May it bring them both ever closer together.

Its wonderful that so many WB people demonstrate such respect, and the spirit it shows should shame other towns like :mad:ing Peterborough!

The townsfolk of Wootton Bassett well deserve this thankyou for their unstinting support on such sad occasions. They turned out in their droves this afternoon and the atmosphere in the warm autumn sunshine was fantastic.

The parade was excellent with representation from all services. It's great to see something positive and the flypast of the C17 and Albert were real crowd pleasers.

A great success. Congratulations to all involved.

I can only echo the grand sentiments of those above, which fittingly fall upon WB, a town I know well from my time at LYE.

I'm glad the weather was kind, it was the very least they deserved, well done to all involved. :D

Wootton Bassett Town Council has a website for comments about anything.

Wootton Bassett Town Council (http://www.woottonbassett.gov.uk/contact.asp)

I've passed on my thanks to the people of WB through that.

AL1 Just discovered that the email address for WB Council doesn't work. Not to worry, snail mail with a stamp will get through.

That's twice - The people of Peterborough take note. should shame other towns like :mad:ing Peterborough!

I think you'll find that the incident to which you allude was created by a flaky Station Commander. Nothing at all to do with the 'people of Peterborough' - unless you allow a couple of deranged r*g eds to define the P o P. :hmm:

Caught the story on the news last night, a superb story that made me feel damn proud.

Well done to Wootton Bassett.

The Bassett branch of the British Legion runs an "e-mail service" whereby details of all repatriations are circulated to those who have requested them.

The POC is the secretary for details.

Its a shame that they felt it only to mention after the days euro rugby scores and Hamilton in the Tokyo GP

Well done WB lets hope that you may not need to show your respect to much more in the future.:D:D

I dont think you could call the then Staish at Wittering 'flaky' by any means! That was a response to a more serious threat than that posed by a couple of r*g*eads that given the chance the lads would have sorted out in really quick time! :ouch:

Well done, Wootton Bassett!

It even rated a mention and photo in today's Getelarph but with the all the journalistic accuracy we've come to expect a C-17 was described as a Hercules. Hey ho... :ugh:

To be fair, while the Telegraph's story mentioned a Hercules, and the photo showed the C17, there was actually a Herc flypast as well, and the picture does not specifically reference the Hercules.

Pedantic I know, but the press ain't always wrong!

I watched the service on TV news and felt a warm fuzzy coming on.:

Not sure how high the Globemaster was but it looked very impressive.

I think CASWO needs to have a quite one to one with CinC Air concerning the ACM's standard of saluting!
