Nice paint scheme!

Looking at the second pic, there doesn't look to be a lot of ground clearance with the avionics pod on the belly. I guess seeing as it is on a year lease from PAS, they decided to leave it on there after its conversion from G-GMPS (Greater Manchester Police).

Best regards,

Jim

P.S. I have a nasty habit of not being able to link photos so if they don't work please copy and paste into your browser. Thanks :ok:

Doh. I did manage to get the first image to show for a while but the fotopic server seems to be very fussy about having direct links to their images.

Are they your photos, cptjim? If they are, you will have much more joy if you host them (for free) on photobucket (http://photobucket.com/).

OOPS, sorry about that, I'm just a mere heli pilot not an I.T. whiz. :}

Perhaps someone would be kind enough to lend a hand?

Many fanx :E

Looks great! Apart from that bent belly pod. Oh, it's not bent yet?

Hope they find some nice level bits of ground to land on! A police aircraft doesn't have to land out often; but it's bread and butter stuff for an AA.

Hmmm your right there not much room under that belly, mind you the Wiltshire combined Police and AA aircraft does a great job with no prob. Most pilots I know will not land on anywhere thats "dodgy" under the belly AA or not, we all like a nice wee flat spot no matter how small it may be. Again am sure it is all about cost not in the game but if is costs more to take it off leave it on (not a fan of that myself) but PAS knows what it is doing and from what I hear does try and do their best for a charity. NO I do not work for them either!!!!!!:ok:

8 years so far operating a hems 902 with a similar belly pod on. Never been a problem with clearance on any landing anywhere. We do have bear paws though.

Kent AA has been doing just fine for years and now the combined Surrey/Sussex AA has the same on theirs, I'm sure they will manage too.

VeeAny, thanks for hosting the pics, you're a true gentleman!!

Regards

P.S. Bravo73, many thanks for the advice, I'll look into it :ok:
The photo's are not mine and the copyright belongs to Dave Haines who does a great job of taking many pics at Gloucestershire airport.

We do have bear paws though.

That's probably caused by something they've put in your tea, Bertie :p

Bertie, how come your 902 has the pod on the belly? I notice from the production list that it was new and not an ex police version.

Thanks :ok:

If you look at the bottom left corner of that last pic you just see a wafer thin glimpse of the shiny new pod on the initial build. It's a great way to mount extra kit like a HISL, Skyshout, landing lights and lots of tactical antennas and many operators choose to fit one even though an air ambulance carries less kit than a police ship.

After over 40,000 flying hours of the UK 902 fleet I have never seen ground damage to a pod!!!!

Dr A, thanks for your explanation :ok:

AS Dr A says; ambulance fm radio antennae (and recently the tetra digital antennae added), landing lights, lower strobe, and inside the pod, added last year; the TCAS hardware.

Not quite "The Ben" but as good as it gets this far south..............

(with apologies to Herts for intruding on this thread but its just to show that the belly pod is no problem)

Having been based at RAF Scampton for a while, albeit nearly twenty years ago, I can assure you that I have. :)

In fact all that while ago, I probably ran up it. But I was probably very, very drunk. My own belly pod is closer to the ground these days. :(

...I'm a damn sight more cautious about digging in the tail-bumper on my current low-skid 135s than I ever had to be about the pod on my beloved 902. Not that SASH ever had one of those, either :}
