Just found this on the BBC website . . .

BBC NEWS | World | Middle East | US plane 'forced to land in Iran' (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7657066.stm)

Do the US Government even have any type of Falcon aircraft?

Simon.

Maybe it was one of these?:- YouTube - Lockheed Falcon unmanned aircraft (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWaiWtH2CuI)

Otherwise a Dassault Falcon:- Dassault Falcon engineers, manufactures and supports high performance corporate and business jets with innovative design and state-of-the-art technology backed by superior customer service. (http://www.dassaultfalcon.com/index_flash.jsp)
(seeing as there were allegedly occupants. Little green men in the Lockheed Falcon?)

Edited to add that F16s are referred to as Falcons. Do the Americans have any F16s in the Middle East? Maybe it wasn't 'US'?

Falcon belonged to a European aid agency

Please note, the mullahs' news agency is called FARS and pronounced "farce". Enough said.

Statements being issued (from Iran) that it wasn't a military aircraft, but there were Americans onboard . . .
Wonder if they checked their passports (sounds like the suggested Aid Agency mission Dassault Falcon).

Alles klar, then, FARS . . .

According to the BBC a few mins ago it was an aid flight from Turkey to Afghanistan and it happened a week ago.

I was beginning to suspect the accuracy of this story when they described it as a "fighter aircraft" carrying "eight passengers", five of which were meant to be "Generals".

I note this was moved to the Military thread. Perhaps there should be a section for "Journalistic cock-ups". They seem to happen with some regularity.
