News today shows Steve Fossetts plane has been found. Wreckage indicates that he would not have survived but there are no signs as to where his body is. I recall some years ago now in northern NSW a plane crashed with only the pilot on board (freight plane that would have carried around 15 people otherwse) & parts of his remains where found a fair way from the wreckage. Seems some wild life removed them to further away. I wonder if that's the case here with Steve? If he indeed did survive the crash which by all accounts wasn't likely then surely he can't be too far away from the site. I hope the mystery is sorted out soon, can't imagine what it would be like for his family & friends to have this show up now with further mystery attached.

I wonder if the position of the aircraft is anywhere near where they had searched earlier or thought he had gone.

Or whether the aircraft is miles from where they thought it should be?

The original article said that the money and licence were found quite some distance from the wreckage leading one to believe that he may have been mobile. I guess animals could have moved the wallet somehow though.

Bloody shame. You can have all the money in the world and take away all conceivable risks, only to be taken out by a lycoming.

Looks like they've found some of Fossett's remains: AdelaideNow... Body parts found in adventurer Steve Fossett plane (http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,24439543-5006301,00.html)

Or some very private IFR......perhaps?

Doesn't appear that Mr Lycoming had a role to play, other than providing the necessary motive power to get to the site of the accident. One report said "crashed into a vertical rock face" which ties in with the link above saying the engine was found 300 feet higher up the mountain than the airframe.

Good to see that this sad story may very well have a difined ending.
The man (Steve) is obviously gone but we still have his achievements to ponder over for all time

I've seen first hand the results of an A/C hitting a solid object (rock facer the size of a house) & total destruction is the result, at least Steve didn't know what hit him (hopefully)

But the BO was deliberate Capt Wally!

I'm surprised nobody mentioned suicide, but he was on the verge of many new adventures so pretty unlikely.

I wonder what the weather was like in that region at the time of the accident? Might well have something to do with it.

Had he been higher? and hypoxic? So many questions and no doubt not many answers!

That's not very nice derek :=

Besides you should know that coyotes only eat roadrunners :}

On the day of his disapperence the weather was reportedly fine but there were towering CB's with thunderstorms building in the distance. He may have been cought in mountainwaves that he was unable to climb out of. It was not exactly a high performance aircraft that he was flying. (that's in my opinion)

Sure as hell some misadventure was gonna get him sooner or later
