Anyone any idea how to get my name to the top of the pile.
Meet all the minimums but still no response. Done the www applications.
Should I go out there and knock on the door? Or who do I call?

Try ringing the companies and asking for whoever looks after pilot recruitment. I was in the same position as you guys and it worked for me with one of them.

Done the www applications.
Its a third-party website. Maybe it isn't working very well.
Try ringing the companies and asking for whoever looks after pilot recruitment.
Good tip.

Check your web application. Make sure it is up-to-date.
Send a CV and cover letter to the General Manager Flight Operations.
Ring up and politely ask the status of your application.

National Jet is pretty secure, and they are looking at expansions (apparantly) and growing a few more in the fleet, they also have quite a few bases (more than Skywest I belive), every pilot I have met from NJ has been very happy (tired sometimes, but who isnt on some days)

Pay- No Idea

Skywest, is also a good environment to work in (but I dont know that first or even second hand, it was third hand news)... I dont know much about Skywest

Did you hear otherwise?

I herd they were expanding their fleet, and have been looked at for a few big contracts...

I take it from that, it either didnt happen, or was incorrect

I retract my last comment...and replace it with...How is Skywest to work for? Good QOL, Pay, Benifits, Contract?

These 2 companies are like chalk and cheese at the moment.

NJS- Loosing contracts, high staff turnover, unhappy pilots, poor pay and conditions, get bonded for 5 years, salary sacrafice part of endorsement, aircraft numbers decreasing etc etc.

Skywest- Getting more and more contracts (many off NJS), low staff turnover, hiring more crew (some from NJS, Alliance and others that are jumping ship), pay not bad (due for review shortly), one of the best CA's around at the moment, no bond, more aircraft arriving, continuing expansion plans, etc etc.

I know which one I would rather apply for!

IF I was looking for a guernsey on a jet I'd be looking at the fokker mob before the B717.

Been around for so long in the West it doesn't matter - apart from 1 hiccup several years ago, they're sound and secure.

Very low turn over rate among staff - and if there was any one thing to help make up your mind - that surely would have to be it. Low turn over should equal happy staff.

It was said in the past that someone had to die before a job was offered at Skywest.:E

... get bonded for 5 years, salary sacrafice part of endorsement ...

I'm not an apologist for the Co, but bonding is from 0 to 3 years depending upon length of service with the group and there is no longer pay for endorsement training. The pilot body and Pilot Group Committee successfully fought these conditions.

don't forget to apply to virgin blue as well. i'm assuming you are wanting a perth basing and they need pilots for their new base.

all the best:).

[QUOTE]It was said in the past that someone had to die before a job was offered at Skywest./QUOTE]

Yes, many moons ago in the pre-expansion days. It's good to see that despite the parent company (Ansett) collapsing, then a number of changes in management over the years, a lot of expansion and change that the company still is renowned for treating its staff well.

Some facts for a change :E

From the 15/9 issue of Australian Aviation Express:

Cobham Aviation Services, the parent company of National Jet Systems, has won a five year extension to a contract with Ok Tedi Mining Ltd to provide flights between Port Moresby, Lae, Madang, Manus Island and Cairns using two Dash 8s. The contract extension is valued at $50 million.

Can't be doing that badly, $10m/pa for five years is a going concern and will keep a few pilots in employment..

NJS

Good Job, Great Flying, Good equipment ( B717), Great team to work with.
Poor T&C's

Hence all the facts, fiction & fantasy on this thread.
