I've just ripped out my Celeron 400 with 64 MB RAM on a 66MHz FSB, and installed a PIII 800 with 256 MB RAM on a 100MHz FSB.

In works fine on my Windows NT partition, but for some reason Win95 won't have it, and it only lets me start in safe mode. Now I can't play on FS, and my PPRuNe access is now being charged at 3p per minute! http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/eek.gif

Somebody PLEASE suggest something!

Many thanks, fellow Pruners!

Pie.

Safe mode means one or more driver is failing. What does Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager look like? Anything obviously failed?

It can't be a hardware failure, because NT works fine on the same machine. I don't know how to resolve any conflicts that there may be because conflict information is not available in safe mode. Catch 22!

Once again, HELP!!!

Almost certainly driver related - hence safe mode, rather than nothing at all. Your hardware has changed, and Windows can't figure out what to do about it. Sounds drastic, but I'd backup, format the partition and reinstall Win95. Painful, but ultimately easiest - you'll clear out all sorts of cruft that will give you grief otherwise.

Thanks for your help, mate. I went into the system menu again and had a fiddle around. I have now put allowed my graphics card to automatically assign its own resources, which has resolved the conflict. (I am one lucky pie-eater

I don't like the word reformat. It sounds so final. :)

Anyway, thanks again. It's good to know there are helpful folk, like youself, out there.
