View Full Version : Website bandwidth

It seems that especially in the last year that many websites are using more bandwith due to all the extra windows showing adverts and flashing this, blinking that and when I am foolish enough to have several windows open at the same time the CPU temp starts to go up and the usage monitor as well.

I seem to remember not so long ago that several pages open plus streaming radio plus whatever, would rarely cause the above symptoms. Is it that websites are adding more dynamic content in response to faster processors in the newer puters or is that the manufacturers are playing catch up to the growth in that which is streamed these days ?

in response to faster processors in the newer puters

Nah.....

Probably more to do with

a/ the commoditisation of broadband
b/ technology improvements in the aformentioned providing higher speeds
c/ increased pervasivness of newer browsers and plug-ins (e.g. Adobe Flash)
d/ technological improvements in the aforementioned providing new features

and a great deal of

e/ expensive designers needing to justify their high fees with fancy sites
f/ advertisers resorting to animated materials in order to grab your attention
