I live at camden and have seen the QF380 fly past a few times yesterday and today. Can anyone tell me what callsign they are using??

Am curious what their sorties have been as they've been turning it round fairly quickly, ground and flight crew training i guess.

I'm pretty sure I saw & heard the big 'Dugong' departing MlLaround 4pm today (frid) Not that quiet actually sounded like distant thunder & it would have been around 12-15000 ft or so over my place.(NW ML)

I do not know what happened the original thread i started about the "Dugong"
I thought it was rather appropriate name since i am sure i read on the fuselage "The Spirit of Monkey Mia" :E
I guess our mod works for Qantas or just lost his sense of humor :}

( I probably get banned for this  )

Conspiracy reigns supreme. SMS, your thread was merged into another (which happens form time to time) and unfortunately the resultant thread has frozen (cannot be opened, even by mods). In the interim it is in the Toolshed while we work on fixing it.

So the sky really isn't falling, and no, I don't work for QF :}

I've got a reason for being indoors today.:{ You should all be outside playing. The weather's beautiful! :E

Pity really! I thought the "Dugong" was clever and very funny. The pic of the sea cow certainly indicated where the frogs got the idea for the design. Both have a face that only a mother could love. Wouldn't surprise me if it is renamed the A380 Dugong. One is an endangered species - the other may well be also!

My thumbs go up to ADL Tower tonight after they sent a police squad car out to the end of Trennery Street to remove us (about 30 people) who had set up behind the corrugated iron fence to watch the big bird come in.

Didn't realise that we pose a security risk after all we would have had to clear a drain and a perimeter fence patrolled by the AFP to have any impact on security at all:D

Its an absolute disgrace:*

Capt Wally

'AI' that is indeed sad, small boys (& girls) can no longer get a good view of planes in & around airports all in the name of security, or is that insanity?:ugh:That freedom that we older ones once had which is now all but gone has most likely had an effect on youngsters wanting to become pilots.

RIP common sense:ugh:

Any word on whether the Dugong will be visiting Perth (I mean if they're going to fly it around needlessly burning dinosaurs they may as well bring it all the way out here). If it comes to WA can we temporarily rename it the WA Ale Shark (Whale shark... a lame sandgroper pun).

Hey, wait a minute; maybe we can get it to have a go at the Red Bull Air Race over the Swan River in a few weeks. Might need to spread the pylons out a bit further apart.

I would think it needs to be trialled at all ports where its likely to lob before unleashing the public and critics on it.Techies need a good crack at it too at the various airports I guess.
It was still being worked by the airbus people here in Oz so not quite done yet perhaps?
Plus it gets Qantas quite a bit of free advert space on all the news services when it drops into town.;)

Aussie Insider
30th Sep 2008, 11:59
Techies don't get a crack at it in ADL they just hold on taxiway for 20mins and their back in the air!

Must be costing them an absolute squillion joyflighting around AUS!

Considering they've trained up 120 pilots, must be a change from the video game they've been on the the past 12-18 months, Must be giving them all a crack

Emirates’ plans daily A380 Perth service
14-August-08
Written by Geoffrey Thomas

Emirates has confirmed its A380 aircraft will service Western Australia on a daily basis following the launch of its aggressive expansion program this month, when the first of Emirates' eventual fleet of 58 A380s flew from Dubai to New York.

________________________

Qantas said yesterday that the A380 would fly into Perth on October 14 for a one-day promotional visit.
The A380 will fly to Perth from Sydney in the morning for a few hours then return to Sydney.
The A380 will not be open to the public but many plane enthusiasts are expected at the airport to see the 73m-long, 80m-wide giant.

(just interesting: Sex ban on the Airbus A380 (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/travel/news/article2747522.ece) )

_________________________

Perth will be 1pm on Tuesday 14 October 2008

Qantas said today that, following the arrival of its new A380 last Sunday, the aircraft would commence a program of pilot training flights on Thursday 25 September that would take it to Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth

Perth: The aircraft will land at approximately 8am and depart at approximately 1pm on Tuesday 14 October.
On board the promotional flights will be Qantas' corporate customers, frequent flyers, local dignitaries and media.

Are there any requirements as a first of type before it enters service? Like proving flights or checks (from CASA).

A380-800 driver, what about the week or so that the EK A/C was grounded for "repairs"? Maybe QF want to iron out any bugs before launching commercial ops? ;)

bit of thread drift but yes bring back open days although any old hands touring qantas home base would be dismayed at how its been denuded of heavy and workshops.
Its a shame todays kids cant get to see where their mum or dad works. So many kids I know are quite obsessed by aviation.(much to my dismay!:ugh:)

bd - I'm suprised you could figure how ugly it was for all of the 0.23 microseconds Ch $even showed of the bloody thing before cutting to an interview they could have easily played later on ...

Absolute pricks .. give the footy back to Ch.10 Not sure about Channel 10 either. When the first QF 380 landed in SYD, the mid morning national news reader prattled on about "this historic moment for Australian aviation" whilst they showed a clip of a B737 landing!!:uhoh:

Capt Wally
4th Oct 2008, 22:34
Ah you can't blame the media for everything wrongly reported, afterall they are in an industry that has a lot of "jack of all trades master of none". The thing that gets me though is there is so much info about aviation & other sectors of business that's freely available on the Net. Reporting anything that's grossly incorrect ought not to happen. Ch 10 showing a B737 is just 'plane' poor journalism 'cause type in A380 into Google & what do you get? A mountain of info on the exact plane, not a B737!:ugh:
Anyway won't be long before the A380 is just another plane in the sky, what's next for the media to stuff up?

Where's the 'Dugong' these days?

Seems the old girl has some agenda behind moving the hyphen, but I'm damned if I know what it is.

Wikipedia, of course, explains all. Think it was her late husband's pet name for her. Hyphens in names are so old-fashioned.

Also why are female pilots called 'Pilots" these days, but OLD female pilots have to be called "Aviatrix," by the Media. Why not just Aviators. Since when did gender become an issue in the ability to fly an airplane.

For the same reason female Actors are called Actrix :suspect:

esreverlluf
14th Oct 2008, 21:37
I have always been amazed at how female actors don't want to be called actresses anymore . . . . . until it comes time for the "Best Actress" award at the Oscars!:O That, apparently, is different.
