View Full Version : Any Good Airline Jobs Left?

I'm after some information from people in the know. I presently have a job in Europe but I'm fed up with the long winters and short (if any) summers and would like to come back home. So my question is are there any good jobs left down under - Oz or NZ?
I have considerable jet time, not interested in doing long haul. I've had a look at Tiger and they appear to be hiring but what about jet*? Or in fact any other descent airline.
Thanks for any replies

Depends what you're after. If you want good conditions with an established carrier then you can join the bottom of the list. If you want slightly more cash in the short term and dont mind a shafting with conditions then take a DEC with one of the LCC's. Unfortunately theres no such thing as both at once.

Apparently J* are still on track to take delivery of 11 more airframes before the end of '09, so I guess the recruitment freeze there will end soon.

2 choices really.

Bit of a dirty word here tho, especially if you come out on a 457 visa.

Good luck

Perhaps you missed where he said he's coming "home", I doubt there'd be any 457 visa involved.

Good airline job think you are 15 years too late.

Does anyone know if J* are going to recruit again sometime soon?

What about vb?

Does anyone which overseas airlines have bases in Aust say for example like Cathay...?

Both Virgin and Jetstar are still recruiting albeit on a reduced basis compared to last year.:ok:

Fairly sure Korean and Asiana have bases in Oz, I reckon most Asian airlines would allow you to commute provided you have the experience they are looking for!

Thanks for the info so far and just to clarify I won't need a visa to work in NZ or Oz, I'm a Kiwi born and bred!

For Jet* are you still having to go through the Qantas selection process? What are Virgin like to work for?

As far as LCC I work for one over in Europe and I can't believe it'll be any worse over there, if anything I'm hoping it'll be better.

Thanks HH, I thought J* had theirs on hold.

Anyone worked is the Korean Asiana scenario. I'd be i interested to hear what people have to say. You never hear much about foreign airlines with Oz bases. Or for that matter I;ve not come across many that commute. Any stories welcome.

Plenty of instructor jobs around especially with someone of your airline experience. I have heard that Australian flying schools are really hurting for experienced pilots as instructors. Might not be the best job in the industry but at least it keeps you current until something else crops up.

Plenty of instructor jobs around
You know, I decided against the Instructor route and opted to do CHTR. Presently I have 1200 hours (only 100 multi) and I am looking for work in Perth with absolutely no luck. (I had to leave the bush a bit earlier than expected.) I would be more than happy to instruct now but I'll be damned if I'm going to go into more debt to do a job that technically any 200 hour CPL with a Instructor Rating could do.

I think that Tee Emm is spot on saying that the industry is hurting for experienced instructors. It is a shame that there's very little provision in the regs for distinguishing a "seasoned" but newly rated Grade Three from a fresh (low TT) Jr Grade Three. As was well and truly covered in the last issue of Australia Flying magazine Instructing does have an often undeservedly low status ascribed to it by many in the industry (we've all heard the one about those who can't do...) but I think that that has been shaped in large by the inflexible regs seemingly written as if the only people who get the Rating are of low experience and therefore largely incompetent.

So Kiwi Red, see you down at the local aero club doing TIFs for peanuts (to get your 100 hours of instruction) next month? I'll do it if somebody covers the training and bonds me.

I believe that EVA AR have a commuting contract too, from Brisbane. AND they take on Ozzies/kiwis.

dunno what they are like though.

FRQ Charlie Bravo, I already have over 1000hrs instructing - been there done that. Wouldn't say no to going back to it though but not just yet.
Thanks for all the advice through I'll have a look at applying to Jet* and a few of the others and see what bites.

Yikes, 1000 instructing! Yeah, probably best to stick with the airline hunt (especially with the pay an instructor gets).
