Are there any alternatives to “Download Helper” in YouTube? That is, one that doesn’t have a huge multi-coloured logo appearing on the downloaded video?

Yes, bazillions. Download Helper for Firefox, Orbit, get2pc, save2pc, Sothink, etc. Some are download services, some are stand-alone, some are browser helpers.

Don't know what you're using to play back the video, but I use Download Helper (the Firefox extension) and have never seen a logo.

For linux users out there you can use youtube-dl.

Linky here: youtube-dl: Download videos from YouTube.com (http://www.arrakis.es/~rggi3/youtube-dl/)

...or for ubuntu users (in a terminal):

sudo apt-get install youtube-dl

I also found this for windows users (to run youtube-dl):

youtube-dl under Windows XP 503 Service Unavailable (http://rg03.wordpress.com/youtube-dl-under-windows-xp/)

www.keepvid.com (http://www.keepvid.com) :ok:

Works on almost any video site, downloads to .flv (low quality) or .mp4 (high quality)

Quite easy, nothing to install....

Thanks, all- I'll give a them all a try.

Tarq 57, don't know what version you're using, but I've downloaded several more clips on Download Helper, and get the three-coloured ball logo appearing- very large, on the top LH corner! Just like the annoying logos on Sky.

Having said that, I must say that I don't remember getting the before with previous versions!?

The version I'm using is 3.2.2, from here, (http://www.downloadhelper.net/) (which is set to check for updates automatically, and I usually install updates, so it's probably the latest)
and I use the FLV player (http://www.martijndevisser.com/blog/flv-player/) to play them. No logo/watermark, or anything like that.

How strange- I've the exact same set-up, and still get these b****y tri-ball, then DownloadHelper logo. I've tried with several random downloads, and get the same result. I'm about to try another downloader!

Just tried KeepVid- it gives great quality images (.mpeg)! For your interest, I've found that they can then be transferred directly to a DVD via ConvertXtoDVD, which converts the to video, and burns them, for playing on a domestic DVD player. And since my camera movies are also .mpeg, it burns them too, with no loss of quality- I used to have to convert them to inferior quality.avi files first, before burning.
