Could someone with more knowledge than me please explain how flights into XCH and CCK are subsidised or contracts handed out for operations into these Australian territories?

Also are these contracts up for review soon? Have heard that red E-Jets are being looked at operating into these ports ex OZ and also into SE Asia.

The ads for tenders have been advertised in The Oz recently a couple of times.

Rumours floating around in VB at the moment are that they have the contract.

Interesting though as the tender was only in the paper recently.

would be a perfect run for the 737, as lots of freight goes out there, and the RJ has seats often blocked of for cargo. and is always a full ship..

A few years ago there was a story doing the rounds describing the check-in circus at Perth for these flights. One story had a guy checking in wearing full scuba gear to avoid the excess baggage. It would be worth re-posting if any has a copy.

captwawa: Pax seats filled first, then cargo is put in whatever seats are free in seatpacks. Makes sense this way doesn't it?

National Jet have the contract at the momement, skyair world just won the contract but went belly up (great due dilegence undertaken by AG's)

Hear VB are interested. Contract is subsidised by Govt, so if airline makes a loss on a particular leg Govt picks up the extra cost.

Sounds like a win win if you ask me.:)
