What are the top 5 reasons not to join CX

1) Your self respect. It is very important to feel proud or happy to work for a company, what it stands for and how they treat and develop their staff. That may not be an essential thing when you have to force yourself over a stepping stone for a limited time. When you consider the job a career choice however it will become a very essential issue that will affect you. When the identification of what you are doing, and why you are doing it lacks over a prolonged time, that's when the personal, professional and social rot will set in.

2) Management and their politics, see above and below.

3) Lack of job security, and union backing due no labour laws

4) Your family and their requirements, ie. school, pollution, lifestyle

5) The long haul grind, deteriorating conditions and having to share layovers with people in the same situation (1-5)

edit: forgot to mention the most important point: missing out on what else is out there! :O

Negatives:
Constant erosion of your package.
Constant violation of your contract/seniority
Pollution
Traditional plusses like fairly quick upgrades and bases are now a thing of the past - therefore the sacrifices you make to come here are not worthwhile any more.

Positives:
Housing in HKG can potentially make you some cash.
If you get hired on a base it might still be a better option than your local regional scumbag outfit.:E

What are the layovers like? Min rest then turn around or a few days here and there. Can you bid for trips?

It’s all about “Control”. We have it and you don’t. We do what we want when we want.

I will give reasons on "WHY" to join CX.

If your package needs adjusting, you will give us pay cuts or we will terminate your contract with three months notice.
With each upgrade selection, there will be interviews with Management and a total review of your training/personal file (including sick days).
If you join as a second officer, we will hire direct entry first officers on a base whom joined after you.
If you join as a first officer, we will hire direct entry commanders, base them in Hong Kong on lower conditions and second them to freighter bases in North America/Europe i.e. Oasis and Dragonair pilots. We will be entertaining direct entry commanders on a base with our passenger fleet in the near future. This will have no affect on your command.
It is Management that interprets your contract, see opening statement. Contracts are binding in honour only.We were only given five reasons, so we will stop.

P.S. We have the best Training Captains/Team and I would like to say a big thank you for a job well done. Now that upgrades have slowed significantly, we will now focus on converting based pilots onto other aircraft.

If you would like to be part of this elite team, please contact your Chief Pilot.

Management will receive their full 13th month but flight crew will not. We will cap it so that office staff will receive their full month.

Management will receive their bonuses of course for managing these difficult times.

To My Bonus.

The Management.

Five more reasons:

You have the ability to request trips/days off 80 days in advance. Note it is request only.
You have the ability to request Christmas/New Years day off. This is no guarantee but merely a request. Management will decide whom receives this request.
If you have a family crisis and need time off, we will have to consult with crew control to confirm sufficient crew. If indeed there are sufficient crews, we will grant that time off, but deduct it from your annual leave.
We allocate a certain number of points (free of charge) for your yearly annual leave. Depending on your rank and grade level.
We offer Free of Charge bookable ticket each year but you will have to pay the airport taxes and our fuel surcharge. This is only bookable if seats are available in that class. As with any Free of Charge ticket, you may be asked to downgrade or leave the aircraft at the Ground Staff’s discretion.
To My Bonus

1. No trust or respect between you and higher management.
2. No say
3. No inspiration from management.
4. Leave allocated by company.
5. Aircrew divided because of different payscales and conditions.
5.25. Pay
5.50. 15-20 years to command
5.75. Seniorty system partly destroyed. (direct entry captains, early command on cargo, basings unavailable due new hires and extended senior pilots.)
5.99. Things are just not right for this "professional" "flag" carrier.

And you know what?

They are leaving...

In numbers greater than ever before. Now we even have a new (ish) Hong Kong based Captain leaving for greener pastures.

Just love it!

Mate, Don't draw your conclusions from PPRune on whether to join or not. There are plenty of us that are happy enough here.

Thanks Mr management.

You are doing a great job of discouraging people from joining CX.

The best advice my Dad ever gave me was "Don't take any notice of what other people tell you about anyone". On the Beach would do well to heed that advice in relation to what all the "belly achers" have posted on this thread. Mate, most of them would not be happy anywhere and they don't have the balls to try another employer. Apply, get selected and make up your own mind.

Because you work at an airline which pays better and gives more benefits and you have already a top senioirty.

Somethings work for some people, some things dont. The same thing could be good for one and bad for the other, so just get in first and if you dont like it, you always have the option to go else where. If you never try, you will never know and think 'WHAT IF'.............

Wait a sec- a positive, constructive, rational post on PPRuNe?! Just what the hell is going on? Where is the inane bitching and whining that we all know and adore?

Mr Management (sic) -
A review of how to use the word 'whom' would make your missives scan a little better.
Don't you have anything more productive to do than contribute to Pprune??
Good luck with your mortgage!:ok:

Jizzmonkey, if you were to take the time to pull your head out of your own fundamental orifice and check my profile you would note that I am 68 years of age and retired. One thing about when I was in the workforce which seems missing, from those such as yourself, is a bit of respect for others opinion even when you do not agree. Frankly, I couldn't give a toss about your comments, I know I think about mine before I post them. :=

Jizz.....y:rolleyes:

The sad thing is you will probably become what you accused "old fella" of being. You suffer from a severe dose of ENVY and no I am NOT an "A-scaler". Life is never fair, you just have to make the best of it. So stop whining that it is everyone's fault - get over it and grow up.:ugh::ugh:

Notice there is nothing on your public profile - too scared to put something there?

Ahhh, that's better. We're back in familiar bitchfest territory.

I take it old fella is trying to balance the score sheet in the discussion, an urge I frequently succumb to myself when it becomes too rosy tinted on here. Maybe same dads favourite quote was "where there is smoke there is fire", or "always try and get a clearer picture before you make an informed choice", we may never really know.

Look at the topic, if too much negativity will give you a belly ache maybe you are better of posting substantial evidence on the thread of why this place is still worth considering. :}

CruisingSpeed, I'm not trying to balance the score sheet, just trying to assist the initial poster. I've tried to live by my late Dad's advice and it is amazing how often I have found a person to be quite different to how others may have seen them. I guess the point is, make up your own mind based on your own observations rather than those of others.

CX is better than any regional airline - pay, schedule, and benefits. The few majors that still pay better are not hiring in Europe or N. Am. If SA is your home, it seems alot of your former country men like living in HK and OZ alot while working for CX. Any job and place is what you make of it.
