Ansett Left overs

[89 steps to heaven]

Walking around Airlie Beach, noticed this left over bit of Ansett. I remember the logo, but was trying to figure out what year (s) this belonged to.

The 1970's and was changed in the early 80's if my memory serves me right. :)

... with the wide black waist band, the girls called it "the bumble bee outfit". With its cute little hat, I understand it was supposed to be a very short term uniform, (part of some short-lived publicity campaign) but (proving some things never change) money then ran short and so, with variations, it stayed on for quite a long time. Ansett crew (of both genders:)) will attest that it had a rooly easy to get at single zipper down the back of the dress, which made it veery popular (with cerw of both genders:):):)).

I went to Haymen Island years after the bumble bee outfit had been replaced (1980) and found that the cleaning ladies at the resort were wearing it as their uniform, which was a bit surreal. I'm also told that after that, they were to be found as the 'issue' dresses to the teenage girls in some of the Aboriginal settlements 'up norf'.

The folded napkin triangular 'A' logo was the one used at the time of the Murdoch and Abeles takeover, so some might say it was the one last used before a once wonderful airline began its slide into asset stripped oblivion.

This logo was used until late 1981 when it was then changed to the new livery when Abeles and Murdoch. I was part of a massive cc recruitement drive at the time. I still remember fondly crewing a mix of old DC9's , B727's and F 27's at the same time as the new 737-200's. It took a air while for the entire fleet to change livery , but it was complete by the time the B767' s were introduced. Heady times indeed. A great era for Australian Aviation.

Did AN ever have 737-200s? -300s yes, but -200s?

Ansett replaced the DC-9 with initially B737-200's then about 1984/5 then the 300's arrived.

Of course, the first B737's, into Ansett,were, 200's. I was an endorsed Capt. , we then got the 300's, then AA, ( Ansett Always ) got their first 737, a, 300

Ah yes, Still remember the 737-200 was affectionally known as the Cream Bottle and the 767 as the Milk Bottle. The good old days. Glad I was lucky enough to ne part of them

Not that I recall, didnt they take earlier production 737-100's from an American Carrier.

They had order's for 737-500's but they let these lapse, instead replacing them with BAe 146-200/300's

TNT sold its half share of Ansett to Air New Zealand in 1996, but incredibly, News Corporation still managed the airline. When News finally sold their half of Ansett to Air New Zealand early last year, News extracted a high price from the New Zealanders -- around $580 million in cash. Aviation consultant Peter Harbison said: "They certainly paid too much for it and I think they recognised it very shortly after, if not before, they did it."

The rest is history.

Your memory is incorrect, Ansett NZ had B737-100 and a B737-200.

Ansett NZ did inherit the Bae 146-300 and a 200QT from Ansett Aussie

Most of the AN 737-200 ended up with America West as at that time News and TNT had a stake of about 10% in America West.
