Anyone else find this GoogleAd on R&N distasteful? Where to next?

Meanwhile, a former pilot who used to fly an An-12, Nikolay Baranov, says that the aircraft is “extremely safe”.
“The engines are good and so is the airframe,” he said. “It has been in operation for 50 years - that says a lot in itself. Now it’s not used that much - but that's only because it’s coming to the end of its service life.”
I'm sure that there must be some positive logic in there, but . . .

That caught my eye too BOAC and I thought it to be in very bad taste, gloating over an incident where people lost their lives and were injured.......I shook my head, shrugged my shoulders and moved on..... Perhaps the Russians have a different idea of what's what

I can't say that I'm a fan of the new banner adverts on the right hand side, they take the attention away from the threads and realistically I'm unlikely to react to one (by clicking) very often. Perhaps it's the precursor of paid memberships to have ad free pages ? On va voir ;)

I agree, they are distracting.

Does this mean that Isreal's policies can be criticised now?

I use Firefox3.and with the free add-ons 'Adblock plus' and 'No Script' my display is ad free.
I have never seen the annoying side bar. :)

It does have one positive though: a good argument with the mrs. for buying a widescreen monitor :E

Well, I've got rid of those damn adds, but the main text box is still squidged over where it was. This is crap. Spoiling pprune like this. I personally make a policy of not buying anything that has had advertising shoved at me in an unpleasant manner. Always have. Living in one big advert...ie Texas, I guard what little ad-free space I can find with some vigor.

Desert Dingo. I have firefox 3 and Adblock, but the ads are still there on this site but not on other aviation sites. What's the secret, I need to get rid, they distract from Prooning.

Now sorted, Proon back to normal. Ads gone.:ok:

I posted this because I felt that allowing 'advertising' based on a fatal air accident was a new low here. I wonder what little of the fading editorial control/taste remains in the PP's world?

Yes, the sidebar is also a PITA but is discussed here http://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/343350-ads-google.html on Wholi's thread

Sadly BOAC, the effect of these annoying messages is more captivating than their content to the posters it would seem, and perhaps that's not suprising. If the adverts were a subscription from a client rather than a randomly computer generated ad, then I think that there would have been an uproar.

As we all know there is an awful lot of rubbish on the web and sadly a fair bit of crass, insensitive content too. We can only hope and trust that Google will fine-tune their search engine filters to minimize such crap that this thread was originally addressing.
