EC120 / Jet Ranger self fly hire in the uk

Hi All

Having had my PPL(H) for nearly three years now I am keen to type convert and get some turbine time on my licence. Ideally I would like this to be on the EC120 but if not perhaps the jet ranger. However question is this. Assuming successful conversion is there anywhere in the UK that will allow me to self fly hire either of these aircraft?? Conversations with people who have done their jet ranger conversion seem to indicate not. Obviously not worth converting on to an aircraft you can't stay current on without a safety pilot. Would also be interested in recommendations as to where to do an EC120 conversion. My current school runs an EC120 but not for PPL even when training.

Thanks for the recommendations much appreciated. Will look through them and make some enquiries.From what I seem to be reading companies will need min hours on type before they allow SFH. Anyone have any idea how many for either the 206 or EC120??

There are plenty of places that SFH JetRangers.

I'd suggest that your question about minimums would be one to ask any prospective TRTO. To my mind, if they have trained you to fly the type, they should be happy to let you SFH that machine from the moment you get the endorsement on your licence. Shop around and go with whoever is the most sensible.

Let's be honest, for a piston pilot converting into turbines, the biggest issue is the start procedure. If they taught you properly, why should there be any resistance to letting you loose on your own, other than to fleece you for more cash?

The only question is currency. AFAIK, no schools will let you SFH their machines without a check ride if you haven't flown that type in the last 28 days.

I have an EC120 available at Redhill for self-fly hire.

Egb at Redhill have TRTO status for conversion. Convert with them,get your ticket and the machine is available. If you convert with someone else then a check-flight is required then it is available.

AV8 Helicopters, Rochester. They have EC120 and B206, I did my jetranger type rating with them.
