Having just tried out the new EFIS add-on for MS Flight98, I am in the process of drafting a memo to management recommending that we install it in our fleet as soon as possible.

Not once has the FD dropped out, it actually captures a loc/gs without having to drop the autopilot out until you've manually become fully established (gasp !) and doesnt give false GPWS alerts above 200 knots. The wind-readouts are accurate and it has..... GPS !!

Wondrous.

Better than the real thing :)

TBone!! Now your on my ground - for a change.

I have been using FS98 for two years plus now and have had about every add-on available. Some good some bad but very often the best ones are available for free on the likes of www.flightsim.com (http://www.flightsim.com) / www.avsim.com (http://www.avsim.com) / www.simflight.com (http://www.simflight.com) - many many more.

One of the best, as you have found out, was developed in the UK by a guy called Chris Brett - EFIS98. It is indeed a truly remarkable piece of work, and as you say acts just like the real thing and oft times a good deal better than we are used to. Chris let a company in Luton market it for him, but within the organisation he is on his own.

There is another EFIS by a Japanese guy called Chan (I know, I know!) also a brilliant piece of work for FREE.

But...there is another, this time GPS that does all the work from take/off to t/d. It has been developed by a Swiss gentleman called Alain Capt. What is remarkable about this one is that in one package you can download a really superb MD11 complete with GPS. Want to see a perfect autoland - its in this one. Again for FREE. Flight planning is also available within the programme

The AIR. files in most of the aircraft are very very near to to the actual performance -in more than a few cases I know they are.

It goes on with a truly remarkable B767 which requires all pre-flights to be done in the correct order with APU, Engine starts following the true path followed by the packs etc., etc., Get the checks wrong and the weights wrong........ It does GPS or EFIS Autolands 1,2 and 3.

These guys are fantastic and they do it all for fun, and then give it to the simmers.

The new FS2000 is out now and includes rain, snow, wind shear, Xwinds, the lot.

Now there is a DC3 which is just awesome. EXACTLY like the real thing and FREE. So good in fact that it would be near impossible for non-flyers to get it to work.

Thats it. There's a mountain more and I enjoy it.
